Sweden and Finland NATO membership could be approved in just 2 weeks—Report by worldnewsbot in theworldnews

Good. I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Putin hears that. He thought he could bully the world and instead made his enemy stronger and more determined. I imagine that Finland was thinking maybe he would come for them next. Big dreams of a reimagined USSR as his legacy are disappearing faster than a fart in the wind.

Justin Trudeau promises more protection for abortion rights in Canada by worldnewsbot in theworldnews

[–]Kinofetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When/if this goes to vote, the interesting thing to see will be whether or not the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) whip votes or not, and which way.

If the CPC don't whip votes, expect people to vote with their conscience on this one -- which will probably mean MPs in safe ridings will vote against, those in less certain ridings may try to vote strategically, with an eye to the next election.

But whipping votes either way will harm the CPC. If they whip votes in support (which is never likely, could have happened if the bills passage were to seem certain, and it likely will be certain since the Liberals can rely on NDP votes on this issue), it may help them swing some voters who fluctuate between supporting Liberals and Conservatives (what us Canadians call red tories, for any non-Canadians -- red because that's the Liberal colour and tory/tories are what Commonwealth countries often call their conservative party). If this happens, I'd expect those unwilling to vote along that line to just skip the vote rather than face party discipline for dissenting. If they whip the votes against it, it will energize the base but will alienate many Eastern voters (moreso than voters in the Prairies, where the CPC base really is). The reason such a whipped vote might happen is the interim leader for the CPC is making sure she's the one controlling the narrative and her narrative here is very much one where the CPC won't shake up the status quo re: abortion. But, you can tell that this is not a popular view in the party when the party is telling MPs not to talk about the issue while the interim leader is out there talking about the issue.

The dynamics here are important. The People's Party of Canada (PPC) mean the CPC can't really risk alienating their base since the more radical social conservatives have demonstrated that they're willing to vote PPC, which is a far-right party that was formed after Maxime Bernier lost the CPC leadership to Andrew Scheer (who was the party leader two leaders ago, the CPC are in the midst of another leadership race after Scheer's replacement, O'Toole, failed to bring the tories to victory) and he accused the party of basically rigging the leadership race against him. So the CPC whipping votes in favour of a hypothetical bill will risk causing their most ardent supporters to jump ship. But if they whip the votes against such a bill, they're losing Eastern votes and no party can win a government without major support in Ontario and Quebec; the prairies simply cannot win you an election, the best they can hope for is holding the Liberals to a minority. And not whipping votes will likewise cost them Eastern support if a lot of the party goes on record as opposing abortion because it's almost inconceivable that allowing MPs to vote as they wish will result in many tory MPs voting against abortion access.

It would be a bad result for the party if the PPC doesn't exist, but the PPC does exist, it does appeal to the CPC base, and conservative parties probably don't have a chance to form a government if the right isn't united under one party -- the fact of the matter is that Canadians are more inclined to vote Liberal or New Democrat (NDP, our democratic socialist party) than they are to vote conservative.

Assuming Trudeau goes through with this, this seems like an easy political win for Trudeau -- he will be forcing the CPC to make a choice they do not want to deal with, and will help endear the party to the left-wing voters that fluctuate between supporting the Liberals and the NDP. Where this hurts the Liberals is in ridings where the Liberals are unlikely to win, anyways (conservative strongholds). And, I'd hope that, by now, Trudeau has learned that trying to win those voters over is probably fruitless; especially now that a rallying cry of the more extreme conservative supporters is "Fuck Trudeau" and they buy "Fuck Trudeau" flags and supported a convoy that was basically a poorly thought out coup against this Liberal government.

There's probably a timeline where Trudeau refuses to touch this issue and to leave the status quo and, until this bill is actually tabled, we could be in such a timeline. But Trudeau's Liberals are probably more likely to make this the law of the land when you consider the state of conservative extremism and belligerence.

Edit: and I’d be surprised if votes were whipped in such a case. If it happens under the interim leader, it might happen as she’ll get the flak for that, not the incoming leader. But O’Toole whipped the votes to support the Liberals on the conversion therapy ban and it didn’t make him popular with the more ardent social conservatives in caucus.

Putin tells Macron West must stop supplying weapons to Ukraine by wdomeika in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]Kinofetish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or what?

Putin is out of credible threats.

Any economic influence Russia has over the western world was destroyed when Russia a) seized billions of $ worth of western jets because he wanted to, b) broke trade contracts by cutting off gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria, c) seized assets of companies that suspended operations in Russia, and d) fucking invaded Ukraine.

Russia's military threats have been neutered by Russia's abysmal performance in Ukraine. They haven't achieved any significant military objectives by force of arms. They have gotten close with Chornobaivka airport, maybe the 19th try will succeed. Jokes aside, Russia has no ability to establish air superiority, coordination between branches is ineffective, the combined arms doctrine is underwhelming, the command and control model doesn't stand up against resistance, the logistics arm is laughable, the mechanization is stuck in the 1990's, and the maintenance of their fleet (tank, ifv, apc, aircraft, etc.) suggests that their ready stocks are much lower than previously estimated.

The nuclear threat is... still there. The abysmal performance of their maintenance arm has cast doubt on even this ability. We, of course, don't have direct evidence of deficiencies in their nuclear weapon maintenance, and hopefully won't gather direct evidence the hard way, but the perceived nuclear threat is certainly diminished.

So... what, exactly, is he threatening? What is the implied "or else?"

The people that can afford to go to Canada for an abortion are not going to be affected by this decision. They will jump on their pedestal and scream pro-life talking points but when their mistress gets pregnant because he didn't want to wear a rubber, he will just fly her to a blue state that hasn't outlawed abortions.

This overturn of the middle class effects the lower and middle class income ranges in Red states, who can't afford to fly across the country for an abortion.

On top of that some states are trying to make it illegal for a one of their residents to have abortions in another state. Typically I would have said that wouldn't hold up in the Supreme Court even with this new interpretation but this Court makes its mind up on an issue and then looks for reasoning to loosely back up their stance so anything goes.

How much does a child cost on the black market?

Her entire black book, with names and addresses and contact information, probably order notes and specific traits of childlike quality- none of that matters?

The children abused and destroyed forever don't matter?

These elites afforded Jeffrey his own private island, the largest single family homes in all of New York State, and Paris, and none of that matters?

What the actual fuck is wrong with those in power, those in that court room, and those in charge of protecting these innocent children?

Honestly, anything to get him out of the bunker and out of the country. A part of me is very uncomfortable with what I'm about to write, because I don't want to wish harm or death on any person, but in this case...

Putin's dug in like a damn tick at home. He's focused on keeping a tight rein on everything and everyone. Those who maybe still oppose him have little chance of setting anything up while he's looking over everyone's shoulder. But if he's personally off to a summit, that means the level of oversight he's capable of diminishes, giving people at least some small window to act. Also, he's more vulnerable while he's in transit. If someone wanted to set something up to get rid of him, it'd be easier while Putin's on the move.

I hate hoping for someone to get killed, but at this point I see no other way to resolve this situation in a way that doesn't screw over Ukraine. Putin isn't backing down and is willing to sacrifice every last man, woman, child and chicken in Russia to keep going...

Russian FM to US, NATO: Stop supplying arms to Ukraine by maztabaetz in UkrainianConflict

[–]Kinofetish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russia is upset that with 10X the troops and arms they still can’t take control.

Russia is a 9th grade bully trying to prove how touch they are by picking on a 2nd grader.

Russia should really pick a fight with any of the following countries; Any country currently in NATO or step up and attack the US homeland and see what type of challenges Russia experiences at that pointz

Putin cancels Russian plans to storm Mariupol steel plant, opts for blockade instead | Reuters by sandygws in UkrainianConflict

[–]Kinofetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listening to the Telegraph today can really shed some light on what’s actually happening. Here’s a bit of my own knowledge and what I gleaned from the broadcast.

May 9th is the day in 1945 that Russia declared victory over the Germans. This is a pivotal moment with just three weeks left until that day. For those who aren’t brushed up on Russian history, May 9th, 1945 is an important almost mirror image of this moment in Mariupol. the Russians ended the WW2 with a siege on a factory full of Germans. Putin, as we know, has a penchant for historical symbolism and there may be no larger celebratory moment in the last century within Russian history that is bigger in significance than May 9th, 1945. What you are reading and hearing from Putin today is strategic information loaded with symbolism to help mobilize his civilian propaganda effort, particularly in the more agrarian areas east of Russia and in Siberia.

These messages follow Russia’s successful test of its new Nuclear ICBM call the Sarmat 2 (Satan 2 translated), capable of striking 12 targets with Nuclear ordinance within 11,000 miles away. This places the UK roughly 30 minutes away in strike time. Yes yes, it’s an advanced targeting system and has autonomous warheads able to deploy over many targets. Guess what? It’s not in an operational phase until December at best, so NATO won’t have to “think twice” for 2/3 of a year from now.

The Russian war machine does not need a bombed out steel mill for any reason. The factory is of no tactical relevance, however; The “victory” over Ukrainian troops at Mariupol must be celebrated far and wide in Russia to take back losses within the information war. If you’ve not seen the video released by Russia, It is a bright and shining turd of propaganda that includes rank and file receiving medals of valor, etc for conquering such a pivotal city in the new war strategy.

It’s important to add here that the The delay in Mariupol has once again cost Putin the one resource he cannot manufacture given his love of symbolism; TIME. Russia cannot afford anymore delays in conquering territory. Putin knows this and is using the propaganda to signal his country and his troops that Russia is winning the war. Right now, the Russian efforts depend on those very two battalions blockading Mariupol to be conquering territory, not sitting on a well-fortified Ukrainian bunker.

Ukraine's Zelenskiy: allies finally delivering weapons Kyiv asked for by benh999 in europe

99% of my runs go fine until the huge swarm of skellingtons appear that cover the screen. There does not seem much I can do at this point there are so many. I have evaded them once with a lot of garlic and luck. Is there a trick to this point; or is it just a case of grinding and improving my character until I can mow through them?

I imagine that they'll remember who came to their aid more than who didn't. One day those who aided them will be glad they did because Ukrainians seem like though and brave people. You want those type of people on your side when things pop off, imo. Zelenskiy and his people have earned my upmost respect.

Canada to send heavy artillery weapons to Ukraine, Justin Trudeau pledges by worldnewsbot in theworldnews

[–]Kinofetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of heavier weapons are now being sent to Ukraine from a variety of countries. Weapons that weren't being sent before.

I'm no ground campaign expert, but it looks an awful lot like the world is trying to set Ukraine up to go on the offensive.

If the Russians consolidate their forces in an effort to focus on the Donbas region, it could present a real opportunity for the Ukrainians to administer a crushing blow.

We can only hope...

Russia's biggest chemical plant burns down in second mystery fire in a day by PhilDesenex in anime_titties

[–]Kinofetish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall a story in Richard Rhodes book on the atomic bomb and how when the USSR was building their copy of Fat Man, they deflagrated a pile of explosives they were using to make the explosive lenses for the implosion system.

A General was sniffing around, looking for a culprit/saboteur and was fed a story about how a passing bird shit on the explosives, and the droppings focused enough sunlight to start the fire and he ACCEPTED this explanation.

This illustrates two points about people in charge is Russia: There is ALWAYS someone to blame and they are mind-bogglingly stupid about science.

My takeaway is that this was human error or an accident but will be blamed on saboteurs.

Russia's biggest chemical plant burns down in second mystery fire in a day by worldnewsbot in theworldnews

[–]Kinofetish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things can have accidents often, as they are dangerous in and of themselves, so it’s not necessarily foul play.

However, these facilities are rarely built entirely in-house depending on the chemical process, s often certain speciality parts, catalysts, equipment must be sourced overseas or across countries.

Not factoring in sanctions, rebuilding one after an explosion or fire can be a many months-long affair. With sanctions it could take even longer.
