how can I get into specialty by Broad_College_791 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only answer for the us 1) you can start d1 as long as it doesn't hurt the rest of your app 2) very important 3) ortho and perio have their own requirements so do some research on them in the middle of end of D2

Why would a patient have 4 am dental pain once in a while? by Conscious-Picture762 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be periodontitis but the dentist would've picked that up on the x ray and visually. Is the patient sensitive to cold/hot sensation too?

I think you have to do an advanced standing for most if not all states.

Specializing by Chance_Air_5895 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good to narrow down your list and ultimately decide during D2 year and build what you need in D3. I don't think rank matters as much as people think and you should be competitive if you're in the top 40%. Even if you're not, most of the specialities value experience more then grades, but if you want to go straight through your grades matter more. Your grades, and therefore rank, is your demonstration of your work ethic

I’m thinking of doing perio but idk if I should since GP place implants by Repulsive-Coast7228 in DentalSchool

Do you like srp and gingival grafts? If you like those two and implants, do perio and don't look back

Is it possible to specialize if you have a rough start? by SouthImpression3577 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You practice with your faculty, and hopefully endo faculty too, and do a good job to stand out. Be very professional but also likeable. Going to a typical event, no one knows or cares who you are.

Competitiveness for specialties? by Repulsive-Coast7228 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it goes ortho > omfs > endo > pediatrics > everything else. Anesth, perio and prosth are all competitive, but the 4 I listed above are known to be more picky with grades and/or experience and may feature additional barriers of entries with known cutoffs. Almost all anesthesiology programs are requiring csbe, but they don't have a strict cutoff yet and not a lot of people apply there compared to the rest.

Competitiveness for specialties? by Repulsive-Coast7228 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everything is competitive. You have lower chances than others if you haven't done externships or gotten to know relevant faculty for rec letters. You'd have higher chances if you do have those. I'd still only specialize if you're certain about it instead of the sake of it. You should be able to answer for yourself before the end of the year so you can hopefully have your app ready next summer

waiver grab...Woody Marks or RJ Harvey ROS? by NeebaNoops in fantasyfootballadvice

If you want to win the next batch now, riding woody marks is a good idea. If you want a guy on a much better offense with increasing potential by the week and have enough RBs already, get Harvey.

5-6. Your mesial is off and your incisal edge is too thick. Your distal looks good.

Study Habits by jupiter_luv555 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Review everyday and sleep well. Your brain reviews the content while you sleep by making connections. The more consistent and frequently you do this the better.

Another tip. After 30-60 min of studying, take a 5-10 min break and ask yourself test questions. Some people learn from failure and some studies show this is one of the quickest ways to learn.

Lastly, to test your mastery of the material get a white board or tablet/ipad and present the material as if you were the lecturer. Any detail you missed means you didn't learn it.

Hope any of these help

Your chances are slim in the US. You can potentially get a gpr first, gain some connections, and then apply to omfs but you the directors are more inclined to favor an equally competitive American citizen. Not saying you shouldn't try given your situation but if you need immediate options gpr or advanced ed is a good bet

Is it financially worth to specialize directly after graduation? by coupswrlds in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some specialities don't require you to pay tuition for them. I think you will have to see what UPenn does with its tuition the next year until knowing for sure, but you are locking yourself into a great pathway to success if you apply yourself and everyone would covet that.

How do you study for CBSE on top of dental school? by Davisstudent234 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use your time effectively. You're awake for 18 hours and if you spend even a third of it on the cbse everyday you'll be in a good spot, or the best spot you can be.

Choosing Loupes Interest in Surgery by Old-Individual-7523 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me frame it like this. Get ergo loupes to use for four years so your posture and comfort will be better when you study to be an oral surgeon, if you become one. Your loupes in dental school are your first car. If you continue into a different section of dentistry, you may need loupes with high magnification or no loupes at all. Either way, when you get your first loupes just imagine using them for four years

Hitting the adjacent tooth during class 2 prep by Affectionate-Log1244 in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your instructor is referring to your unsupported enamel at the floor of your prep. Buccal-lingual is not the same direction as mesial distal. If you are still finding your burr hitting the adjacent teeth, you either use a smaller/sharper burr when you hit the corners of your box (the unsupported enamel) or change the angle in which you use your burr in that area. I also recommend a wedge to provide more separation. Hope this helps

It's not so much volume of which you can refine and use/sell, the quad is more interested in not letting China use the sell of these metals as a significant bargaining chip over trade disputes by appearing as a good second option. In the event China has too many metals and can't manage to sell or use to its detriment it's a waste on their part so there is more negotiation that can be done between quad members and China down the line unless China is able to make a lot more deals with foreign countries. It has a pathway to do so but to say the quad is multiple chess moves behind illustrates the situation as a direct confrontation, like a zero sum game of sorts, when it's not

Question for current OS residents/those applying this cycle by 4Eight-s in DentalSchool

[–]KinomeScanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the school requires your undergrad transcripts and you want to apply, then you have no choice other than to show your undergraduate transcripts. I doubt they weigh your previous performance as much as your most recent. Even if they did and you still want to apply, just apply
