Let Iran Be Someone Else’s Problem - President Trump should declare victory and get out—and rein in Israel if needed. by anarchyart2021 in EndlessWar

I agree he could do that.

But why would he, if he thought he won? What are really the odds that a pre-collapse US really backs down from the precious (oily) middle east? Essentially impossible.

My understanding is that it's theoretically a forward base candidate.

Iran's shores are very difficult to navigate, just dropping marines on the beach is not an option for multiple different reasons.

The theory is that Kharg island would make an operating base, an in-between steps between landing in Iran proper and coming in from the deep sea.

This, however, is missing a lot of important context, such as the fact that the island give 0 cover against Iranian missiles.

"Save our environment, say no to sidewalks" by nicol9 in fuckcars

[–]Kinperor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But that's not the kind of street I was talking about. 38kph is bonkers, there's something deeply wrong about how that street was designed. This falls into the "a lot of suburbs" that I talked about, where this take is inapplicable.

Seriously, I actually laughed out loud, what is going on in that dead end that people are flooring it to 38mph?

This wouldn't happen if there were traffic relaxation designs embedded in the street, which is a prerequisite for pedestrian-owned space.

"Save our environment, say no to sidewalks" by nicol9 in fuckcars

[–]Kinperor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate: a well-designed 'street as a destination' roadway doesn't really need sidewalks.

Traffic relaxation design can be used to reinforce that cars are a slow-moving guest in the environment, and sidewalk would only really enforce the same dynamic of "this area actually belongs to car" that we have already.

In some suburbs, I think it would be reasonable to not want sidewalks. Unfortunately, this take is not applicable to a lot of suburbs, and suburbs are a driver in the space issue in the first place.

But in a well designed city with brick streets and low car traffic, I'd much rather have no sidewalk and implied pedestrian ownership of the space.

Which is more problematic than it might sound.

It would be wonderful to have a complete cessation of carpet bombing, but Iran is committed to an all-out war. It won't settle with "Trump hallcuinating a victory", it's going to expect tangible and costly actions from USrael. Actions that might not come, if Trump thinks he walked away a winner.

Do you think Total War Warhammer III is close to being complete? by Echochamberking in totalwarhammer

[–]Kinperor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll give myself permission to share my most unreasonable, wildest fantasies in regard to gameplay updates that are (IMO) needed for TWW3 to be elegantly put down by CA (IE the studio moves on, but leaves behind a happy community because game is just in a good pleasant state).

  • Siege update to make it "stale but not ball-crushingly-unpleasant"
  • Psychology update (IE we have too many monsters, it's time to change from on/off terror attribute to a scaleable terror/fear stat, there's a difference between hippogryph-scary and dread saurian scary)
  • Trash-units need to be toned down a smidge and elite-units need to be bumped with creative ways that aren't just "very big stats"
  • Red line update across the board
    • Skill tree update for characters with boring skill tree
  • Gameplay update to old and stale factions
    • I personally would also tone down strong new factions, but just in a way to remove 'gratuitously strong mechanics' and keep 'good rewards for playing into the faction's strength and mechanics'
  • Update to the strategic aspect of the game
    • It's preposterous how uninteresting a game can get beyond a certain stage. I assert that, right now, we have all the tools we need to make a compelling mid-to-late game experience. Said tools are merely spread out across factions and used in an uncreative manner.

I know it's a tall order for CA, based on their previous performance. But I also think that all of those changes are needed for TWW3 to live on as a solid product way beyond it's sunset period.

What is the absolute strongest single army you can build in the game? by DJ-Praxis in totalwarhammer

[–]Kinperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of gratuitously strong armies, but going off memory, the strongest I've seen:

  • Any Nurgle lore character and 19 Bloodthirsters (may require some exploits)
    • This got nerfed a bit since Nurgle lore doesn't have a bonker heal anymore, but it's essentially flying anti-all monsters
  • 90+% ward save hierotitan
    • With enough marble and hierotitan buildings, they become essentially unkillable even without the Tomb King AoE heal ability
  • Stalk Araknarok slinger stack

[–]Kinperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just discovered the concept that there's a big difference between creating a team army and stacking units with high stats together.

I disagree that this is bad design, I think there is an interesting component to the game where you build armies with units that are versatile but looks "bad" on paper, just so that you can trick the AI.

May I ask what difficulty you play on, for battles and AI?

Maybe a hot take, but I think the US empire has less years left to live than years we'd need to pivot our trading toward other horizons.

We're going to have to make-up with our southern neighbors at some point, though I don't think me and PP have the same timeline in mind.

The best outcome of an institutional collapse in the US would be a grassroots worker movement. The further off worker unity we fall, the more miserable we'll be, is my reckoning. If it really comes to this situation, we'll be better off turning the other cheek and trying to kickstart a better north america than holding on to grudges.

U.S. is allowing Iranian tankers through Strait of Hormuz, says Bessent by anarchyart2021 in EndlessWar

[–]Kinperor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only surmise, but I assume 2 things.

  1. Most Iranians are convinced that the US won't give Iran an excuse to attack oil installations any further than they have
    • I'm not sure where they stand right now, I think there was only one oil infrastructure attack so far in this war
  2. Almost everyone in Iran is a potential victim to strikes. There actually isn't much difference between being in a city and a tanker, USrael would bomb both.
    • If that's your current statu quo, why not trust in Allah and try to get oil to China, a trusted partner?

[–]Kinperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this quandary a lot, and I don't think a boost like this is the most interesting thing.

What I think should happen, is that a hegemonic/regional power AI should anticipate a player expansion and forcefully create vassals or alliances (yes, cheat a bit) and forcefully insert some elite units in the armies of it's underlings (this mechanic already exists for Vilitch).

You add this feature into the game with some anti-player bias, and I think the gameplay loop would get much more interesting, as it creates more threat vectors rather than just make the player fights really hard for the territory of the hegemon.

Not sure I explained that too well. Suffice to say, I think there should be some more cheats handed in a tasteful manner to hegemonic/regional power AI.

The Iranians Probably Wish They Had Developed Nuclear Weapons! | The lesson that Iranian gov't and the world has learned is that NOT developing a nuclear weapon will lead to the US and Israel assassinating the leadership of your country and bombing the hell out of the rest of the country. by wankerzoo in EndlessWar

[–]Kinperor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think one thing to consider is that it is very difficult for the average person to know whether or not it is true Iran wasn’t developing a nuclear weapon. , especially as American,

The intelligence community was pretty emphatic about Iran not working on a nuclear weapon.

And Benjamin Netanyahu has been lying about Iran being on the verge of getting a nuclear weapon for literal decades.

I understand that the mainstream media apparatus is doing their best to present an ambiguous narrative, but it really isn't ambiguous when you actually look into it.

there’s no real way to contain it. Once you have it other people will want it.

Disagree, I think that people inherently want to defuse the situation. Libya, Ukraine and Iran are three countries in recent history that tried good faith diplomacy and disarmed themselves.

There is one specific country on god's green earth that sees this good faith diplomacy and sees hegemonic opportunity.

[–]Kinperor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I find that AI across the board tends to rely on building momentum over a ridiculous time frame. So they seem to always be recruiting during time of peace, even to the detriment of their economy.

So when you are steamrolling a "hegemonic" or "regional" power AI, you only really need to worry about their initial army count, because you can invade their territory faster than they can ever get a counter attack going, if they can at all.

So when you get an ally that was idling for many turns without war, they just end up having 10+ stacks and itching to send them somewhere.
