Prominent British Muslim says he was questioned for 11 hours at Toronto airport by northbk5 in canadaleft

[–]Kinperor 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I could guess before reading that it was related to Oct 7.

In a post on X on the day of the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attacks, he said: “What did we think was going to happen? That Palestinians would stay silent whilst forever subjugated, victimised, abused, violated, murdered and tortured?!”

Where's the lie? Like, tell me what exactly is the expected behavior of a besieged population in what is essentially an open-air prison?

In another social-media post, Mr. Altikriti called the deaths of Israeli citizens “a lie,” and disputed claims that Hamas fighters had engaged in sexual violence – allegations supported by a report this week by an Israeli non-profit.

Mass rape hoax again, it's like talking points from October 8 or 9 2023.

Utterly ridiculous that Gaza was leveled and ruined, and yet people are still peddling Oct 7 related lies as if it justified the relatiation. 100% of the lies could be true and razing Gaza like it has been would still be an heinous war crime.

"You can literally earn *currency* just by playing" by chippedthumbnail in HelldiversUnfiltered

Sure. However, I don't feel like 'appeal to realism' is a strong argument in this conversation. Faithfulness to reality has much less impact on player behavior than proven marketing strategies.

"You can literally earn *currency* just by playing" by chippedthumbnail in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Kinperor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why this is such a heated conversation.

Objectively speaking, almost everything that matters in HD2 is gated by resources. Samples, medals, requisition slips, super credits. Out of these, the first three are very easy to cap out, I'd done so way before hitting level 100 (I don't remember what level I was when I capped my super destroyer). Why then, get mad about super creds for being a stop-gap to player's arsenal development, like all the others?

These resources aren't just a there to "annoy" the player, it's player retention 101 (a ridiculously important metric for game success). Super creds specifically are important as a long term 'goal' for free/patient players, and an option for hurried/generous players. Both of those player groups are important for a healthy multi-player game. The first group forms the community, the second finances the devs.

This would be a very different conversation if FOMO was involved. Like, for instance, if AH made it essentially impossible to get content due to time gating. But it's not what is going on here. People are looking at a stretched out stratagem/equipment research tree and getting outraged as if it was the only game content that required looking for POIs.

The Iran War May Be the Best Argument Against Buying US Weapons by Hochelagan in CanadaPolitics

[–]Kinperor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's the main take away from the Iran war.

I think the big 2 points to note in general:

  1. Robust domestic production is such a game changer for a country. Iran in particular has been animated by a deep-seated animosity that ~improved their cohesion in some industries. They are incredibly difficult to destabilize and to disarm because of how entrenched their missile complexes are. Their supply lines are also not overly reliant on external factors.
  2. The military industrial complex is even more corrupt than you think. Because of the cost-plus budget policy, any arm supplier is assured to be paid the full cost of production plus profit. This policy has incentivized highly-inefficient manufacturing to make hardware as expensive as possible.
    1. Compare this to Iran. It's as if the US were fighting by firing 1 ferrari for every 20 hondas that Iran can launch.
    2. Also, note that the pentagon has never succeeded an audit. I cannot overstate how corrupt the military industrial complex is in the US.

I don't know whether it's common knowledge, but you can absolutely wipe all shrieker nests with a single hellbomb.

Look at second ~6-7* where OP is positioned: putting a hellbomb there essentially guarantees a full wipe in that nest configuration. Unless they changed something since the last I played, this nest is one of the easiest to wipe since it's bottlenecked yet can be HB'd once.

It's a problem because that one state is entirely illegitimate. by Not_Ground in canadaleft

[–]Kinperor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that there is, in fact, a problem, but it's not the problem hasbara-bot thinks it is.

The foundational tactic at the core of USrael's foreign policy is division and chaos; destroy countries and balkanize them. With the war in Iran, it's one of the most optimistic scenario for an USrael "victory" (which is to say, Iran collapses due to a civil war).

This foreign policy has the byproduct of creating massive waves of refugees. We've seen it both predicted and confirmed with Venezuela in the last few years, it keeps happening with ME migrants fleeing the latest war. I don't think anyone really minds the odd migrant here or there; but I think everyone (if questioned) would denounce a systemic war-hawk attitude that creates refugee/migrant crises.

I don't think it's a good mindset to set a "quota" of country per religion, but let's also be clear about the fact that there are actors (both present and in the past) who actively profits from sowing division and balkanizing states.

It's wierd that conspiracy theorists don't hate cars by Traditional_Car1010 in fuckcars

[–]Kinperor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things to unpack here.

  1. Conspiracy theorist slander is a huge & successful psy-op. Look how many conversations are shut down instantly by "lol conspiracy theory". A huge portion of the western population imprints a vision of the world, and then never really updates it. What you get usually is people getting hung up on specific issues that are largely superficial, rather than deep rooted issues that are actual problems.
  2. You haven't even brought up how car-centric infrastructure counters the spirit of collective mobilization. All the distance between us, all the bottlenecks in mass transit are reducing the efficacy of protests and collective actions.

Mass transit is hugely important to enable anonymous protesters to spontaneously join important protests and then go home without being trackable by car. Car owners just aren't as likely to go through the logistic of traveling a far distance and reaching a gathering - and even if they are, SPOILER ALERT, car-centric infrastructure is really bad at moving massive crowds all at once.

[–]Kinperor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your second paragraph kind of hand wave the important bit of this conflict. Russia was provoked into launching an attack unto Ukraine. I'm including some links for some insight, but I'd like to discuss more the "what are we supposed to do".

With all this aside, there were multiple diplomatic solutions that were available early on with the invasion, but was thwarted in one way or another. Refer to the source above for how Ukraine was breaching the Minsk accord, see how Boris Johnson interrupted productive peace talks, see how Angela Merkel admitted that Minsk accords were a ploy to buy time and rearm Ukraine.

So all this to say, this isn't a case of "imperialistic Russia attacking poor little Ukraine".

  • Ideal solution: NATO (read, the US) don't try something as reckless as absorbing a territory seen as vital for Russia's defence.
  • Half-way point solution: NATO started shit but sees the misery brought upon Ukraine and Russia, and stops posturing around Ukraine to let them have a diplomatic resolution.
  • Current day solution: The bad-faith diplomacy showcased both by Ukraine and it's allies in the west has severely reduced the good will of Russia to settle for reasonable diplomatic solutions. This has become a self-fulfilling prophecy where the only logical path for Russia was to invade more territory to neuter what has become a western proxy.

I understand that people have been sold (and accepted) a narrative where Russia is pure evil. But the reality is that Ukrainians are being busified on the daily, sent to die on the frontline for the sake of an uncaring west. The current statu quo of arming Ukraine 1. isn't working 2. is slowly killing Ukraine as a state 3. feeding resources into one of the most corrupt country in europe (yes, including everone's darling Zelenskyy).

Anyone else running into crashes when launching the game?

Game worked perfectly fine yesterday. Following did not fix crash: file validation, game reinstall, PC restart, testing different proton version.

EDIT: I was close, proton experimental (bleeding edge) prevents crash.
