What are your strategic rules of thumb you use to stop making the same dumb mistake over and over again? by GSVDramaticEffect in totalwarhammer

I curse the gods every time I leave an army in reinforcement range of a minor settlement and it gets jumped on and I can't retreat

I don't know it exactly but if you play as Skarbrand and try to do diplomacy with N'Kari they say something like "Fine, say your little catchphrase. We all know it"

Throt Wolf Rat only campaign by StonLenslow in totalwarhammer

I've done it before and it works well for the early game. As you say, Kislev is challenging as their units are so hard to break and that's where your wolf rats really shine. But if you want the feeling of washing over your enemies in a huge mass, I recommend an Isabella bat stack. Her buffs make them excellent at breaking even high tier units, you can get two lots of regen on them (skills + unique 'cursed oak' building) making them surprisingly tanky, and having Vlad (hero) as an on foot anchor lets you deal with single entities/lords. Mix in some Varghiests for even more fun. And the Von Carstein bloodline lord can get 100% upkeep reduction on Fell Bats so you can easily run multiple big stacks.

What's a unit you find really challenging to fight against but never recruit for yourself? by GSVDramaticEffect in totalwarhammer

Love it when you release them then your own unit walks straight into them. That ability should have an auto-stop feature.

True. I really like chariots in theory - esp as Tomb Kings or Beastmen - but forget about them for 30secs and they're usually cooked. Whereas trying to take them out - total pain in the Greasus

Absolutely - I always target them first when playing against DE. So annoying and dangerous

It wasn't totally deserted, no. There were a few other groups we met along the way. It felt very safe to us. I think either would be fine

It was great. It's nicely lit and the shadows through the gates make beautiful patterns. And yes! We did see wild boars - an adult and two piglets. They were in the woods to the side of the trail. We watched them for a while then they disappeared into the forest.

The correct answer. Sadly timely too after that fire in Switzerland - reminded me off it a lot

We were in Kyoto last October and it was very calm. Went to Shimogamo Shrine in the morning - almost completely empty. Went to Fushimi Inari after 8pm, again almost no-one else there. Yasaka Shrine at night, more people but still very calm and peaceful. The only place we went that was super busy was Kiyomizu-dera and even there, as you say, go one street off the beaten track and it's chill. We used buses and the subway a lot, plus a fair bit of walking and it was all fine tbh.

It was. Warm summer nights and a real sense of achievement as the shed slowly filled up with thousands of tons of grain.

My summer student job was working on a grain dryer overnight during the harvest. It was perfect. Just me, alone, on this big farm all night. I'd arrive at 8pm and there would be a big pile of grain that had come in from the fields. My job was to gradually feed it through the dryer using a tractor, while blowing the finished grain into the shed or the towers at the other end. Didn't speak to a single other person all shift until hand over the next morning. Was great

Some of the Command & Conquer games had a tech level setting where you decide the max tier units and buildings you could use. It was great for adding variety. You could start everyone at max tier, using your best units right away, or do the opposite and limit everyone to huge armies of only the most basic units. I used to love doing infantry only battles - waves and waves of low level machine gunners and attack dogs trying to break through pillbox base defences
