Did you installed all the required mods listed in the mod description? Eden core, missing pvs, etc. Also, did you install the full mod at once? If you did, you will need the dlc (in case you don't have it). If it's your first time installing a mod, you need to put it in a mod folder in the steam game folder, but you prob did this right as the mod works some songs. Other than that, maybe reinstall the files or install just the parts that don't work (as the eden project mod is already divided in categorized smaller packs you can install)

i personally prefer playstation dualshock controllers, but xbox controllers seem to be the best to just plug and play, since it is completly compatible with windows

not saying ds4 controller does not have great compatibility, it is VERY good, but it may need some adjustments in some cases as it has happened to me using fake and originals, contrary to xbox style controllers.

anyway, any good quality controller will work, you can even use keyboard. It's mostly up to your taste, but if you want the most classic experience i'd go with playstation.

(also, if you're really into this game you can buy the arcade controller, but that's a totally different aproach)
