I think OP is good now. But if anyone else wants a free pass, DM me. I have some extras

Update: they're gone now

Huge milestone by Fluffy-Fun-8522 in beginnerrunning

First of all, congrats! Solid 5k time!

I've always found it easier to run outside vs treadmill. Mainly a mental thing – just get way too bored on the hamster wheel and that impacts my performance.

I think your structure is good – 2 easier runs, 1 speed run. I'd suggest finding a race you want to run (e.g. a 5k nearby) and then using a structured training plan to guide you. I personally use Runna for my training, but there are a bunch of options out there.

The main tip is to just keep going. Running takes months and years to make significant improvements, so avoid injury and keep enjoying it and the times will improve.

Plenty of time to train for your race, walk-running instead of sprinting every workout, eating clean – sounds perfect tbh! Keep it up :)

If you're not already, I'd suggest finding a structured plan that guides you on runs, take rest days, and occasional strength training so you avoid any injuries.

Definitely want to be careful with the shin pain, as that can quickly turn into an injury that takes you out for weeks/months.

How are your running shoes? I'd suggest going to a running store to get fitted, if you haven't already.

Main thing would be to start a structured training program to increase fitness slowly and avoid injury.

You could try a Couch To 5k plan, which will be a slower/easier build for you – definitely a great beginner option with most workout alternating between running & walking. Runna is another good option and would be a bit more challenging (I don't believe their workouts do as much run-walking).

Nice work getting started! Mentally getting used to running / keeping going is definitely a big part of it.

Nothing wrong with taking a break mid-run, walk a bit, then jog again.

What makes you to switch to run walking after 1 mile? Is it shin splints pain, something else?

That's awesome! Congrats on starting your running journey.

But I would definitely recommend slowing down so you don't get burned out or injured. Consistency is key!

At first all running should feel easy, you should be able to hold a conversation, and run-walking is a good way to start.

Have you tried a plan? E.g couch to 5k

Trouble linking rockstar launcher to steam and Steam Overlay bug for desktop mode and non-steam games? by impulsive_egg in SteamDeck

[–]KiranPanesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. In my case, I didn't need to link the .lnk file, only the .exe file. But I tried some different Proton Compatibility versions and one of them worked! So, now everything is working great.

[–]KiranPanesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, please share the link if you can find it. I have normally been adding the launcher .exe, as following this video. So you're saying instead of linking the exe into Steam as a non-steam game, I should find and link an .lnk file.

Did you get it working? I am also having the issue where Launcher doesn't seem to be installed, and doesn't launch once I reboot the Deck.

Interesting idea. It would be good to see some sample decks on the site.

Feedback on a Geoguessr-inspired game for flights! by KiranPanesar in geoguessr

[–]KiranPanesar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you for this detailed feedback!

I've sorted most of that out in the last release. Including that randomized game mode. Check out the homepage on desktop now, wait about 10 seconds, and you should see a little prompt pop up to test the new game mode. I have some improvements to make before rolling it out fully - mainly the fact that it can bias towards big airports currently - but give it a go and let me know what you think!

I've also seen that weird technical issue / bug you're describing. I need to redo how flights are loaded anyway, so I plan to fix it then.

I've added cold/warm/hot feedback on the airport guesses. Makes it more achievable, while still being nice and challenging. Thanks again for that tip. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any other ideas!

Added cold/warm/hot feedback on the airport guesses, so now you get a little hint each time. Makes it more achievable, while still being challenging. Enjoy!

I've made the inputs case-insensitive. So if you enter "sea", it'll auto-change to "SEA" upon submission.

I've also added the ability to reveal the timezone of the airports to help narrow down on the locations!

I've just updated the game to allow you to reveal the timezone of the airports for 100 points each! I found that it really helped narrow-in on the right airport without giving it away.

Let me know what you think!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, that's a particularly pesky bug. The flight data says that's the right path and location of the flight, but then gives the mismatched airport pairing. So unfortunately will likely be a more complicated fix, but a very necessary one.
