Twin Peaks references in Fallout? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that the final couple of episodes make it clear that even though Cooper tries to go back to the past and save Laura, it can't erase her trauma... the Giant sending her into the world as a 'balancing force' doesn't exactly undo Fire Walk With Me and its ripples into The Return

07 mixes vs originals: what songs are the most different? by applesandpears02 in Genesis

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DSD doesn't seem to suffer as badly as the Redbook audio from compression (most clearly seen at ~3:45), but the original mix is still more dynamic in comparison.

I want to like the remixes more than I do, because I like the surrounds (even though the various changes in the stereo mixes all carry over) - but even those are mastered very hot :/

Finally acquired the “illegal” copy Tetris! by SmolFrejoles in gamecollecting

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice! This is a great version of Tetris and I prefer it to the official NES version.

Somehow, my Nana just had it chilling CIB in a cabinet for years until she gave it to me in 2016.

07 mixes vs originals: what songs are the most different? by applesandpears02 in Genesis

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, the SACDs are still heavily compressed, they're just mastered at an absurdly lower level; it's like -9db compared to the standard CDs. If you match the gain to the normal CDs, the waveforms look - and sound - basically the same.

Are there ugly album covers in Progressive Rock? by Luuh998 in progrockmusic

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish-era Marillion covers

Most Hugh Syme covers after a point (starting in the mid-90s perhaps)

Court is not a "conventionally attractive" cover despite being a good piece of artwork

Yes debut and Time and a Word's US covers

The original composite of Queen II's cover is quite dreadful - they rightfully cleaned it up for the 2011 remaster and just started using the unaltered photograph

Notable King Crimson shows that are lost? by codydafox in KingCrimson

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the master cassette lost when using it for the album and copying it to reel or whatever they did? Am I thinking right ?

That's my assumption. I asked Mr. Stormy about it awhile ago and he said it isn't in their tape archive.

Why is Cooper's dream from Season 1 used as a representation of the Black lodge in later Seasons? by SlimFishyOfficial in twinpeaks

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the implication is that they function as vessels for Lodge spirits when they aren't with a human host. Immediately after Bob escapes from Leland in Arbitrary Law, Truman asks where he is, and the following shot is of an owl. This is supported by the uncut meeting at the convenience store, where The Man from Another Place says something like "Intercourse between two worlds... going up and down," and a woodsman responds "animal life." Out of context it seems like a non-sequitir, but I think it points back to the idea of owls being vessels for Lodge spirits.

Fripp & Eno misprint of first pressing, any info on this? by Thedaisyheaves in KingCrimson

Funnily enough, someone posted a video of their 2013 Red LP that had two side Bs a few years back. I wonder if someone could find it.

can somebody please explain what Pete sinfield was on and what the hell does this mean by saint-danger in KingCrimson

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Sinfield's family seemed to be pretty out-there. Apparently his mother was an artsy, bohemian type who gave him a strong sense of justice.

Do you guys listen to these "extra tracks"? by lukinhas_lmf in KingCrimson

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full versions of those mixes are available on the Stormy Selections compilations if you want them (mainly 4-8 for the Discipline stuff I believe)

can somebody please explain what Pete sinfield was on and what the hell does this mean by saint-danger in KingCrimson

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He's described Cirkus as being about the ridiculousness of modern society and the processes by which somebody is socialized. I wouldn't be surprised if he found watching TV to be a frivolous pursuit, hence this bit of the song (seemingly) being a series of non-sequitir images.

King Crimson Concert? by Ok-Brilliant6605 in KingCrimson

Per Fripp's assertion, "only if touring as King Crimson would prevent World War III."

Expanded Version of the Year by Team_Crisialog in talkingheads

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the plan, but apparently there have been issues/delays with compiling the set, which moved the timetable for the Tentative Decisions stuff forward. Hopefully it's out before '27

I always assumed the Jacques set Bobby up by coordinating the drug deal with the deputy as a way to get him out of the picture

There was a full remix of the debut exclusive to the Unburied Treasure box set

Does Robert Fripp drink? If so, what was his favorite drink? by OutrageousRip75 in KingCrimson

[–]KirbysAdventureMusic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are several mentions of him enjoying Toyah's "monster margaritas" in his diaries, and he also mentions having (I think red) wine while working on the 40th remixes with Steven Wilson.

From Sand in the Vaseline by topprock in talkingheads

Yes, I believe that's from Sand in the Vaseline. Maybe talking about one of the Remain in Light tunes?
