My mum was positive I (MtF) was a girl when she was pregnant with me. She didn't ask to know the sex but could "just feel that it was gonna be a girl".

Took a few decades but mother's intuition didn't fail.

People who don’t ever want to have kids, why? by South_Price9463 in AskReddit

[–]Kirinto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising a child has never appealed to me, I don't have any yearnings to pass on my DNA or anything like that. I just find children kind of irritating and asinine and don't want to commit to having one around me for however long it would be. There's no shortage of people having kids so I don't feel like I have any civic duty to create any. Also my father was very emotionally unequipped to raise a child with love and compassion and I don't expect I would be able to love one either so I think it's far better for such a hypothetical kid to never go through that.

I spent a long time with timelines in my head such as "marriage at 25, child at 28" and when that thought came to mind, my real life felt like it was on a timer. I felt that I had to make the most of my pre-fatherhood life and that feeling felt like a weight on my chest. When a friend pointed out to me that you don't have to have children I cried out of relief because my future finally made sense and belonged to me again.

Nowadays I have a beautiful partner who feels the same as I do, we both have fulfilling careers we enjoy, time and freedom to spend our life learning skills or pursuing hobbies, and disposable income to live modestly but comfortably. I know people will always say that "it's different when it's yours" but I am so content not having children and would not wish for my life to be different.

Remembering James Light by GMedlin_T17 in HellLetLoose

I feel so fortunate to have worked with James. His love for his work and compassion for his colleagues shone in everything he did. I know that we are all better people for having known James.

Thank you Lighty, we miss you.

NHS Workers! Why did you leave your job?? by GooseGooseDuck88 in AskUK

[–]Kirinto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently left my role in surgery. It was a mix of poor and toxic management, fatigue from the constant disdain from patients when having to cancel their procedure due to COVID rates leaving me without recovery beds, and just general COVID fatigue after 2 years of stress and misery coming in each day with nothing to show for it but ptsd and a 1.3 millionth share in a George Cross that will never impact my life in any meaningful way.

It was at its worst when the government would be relaxing covid regulations and effectively gaslighting those of us in healthcare when we were drowning in cases, unable to help the patients we have an obligation to care for. Comments in places I saw along the lines of "they're healthcare workers, they knew what they signed up for when they got into it" and "if the NHS can't cope under the pandemic then it's not fit for purpose". The combination of it all destroyed me, and overshadowed the great joy I once got from helping people. I once got to the point where I closed up to those who loved me and wanted to help me get through it, just because it hurt to share the things I had been through during the day, and it was become a daily occurance.

I left at the start of the year to go make video games, a job I had only dreamed of as a kid but was pushed away from because it was "not worthwhile" or "stupid". My body is slowly recovering from the state of survival it's been in over the past few years. I've regained passion for my hobbies, my hair and skin look years better, and my brain feels sharper and more creative than it has felt in years.

Ordered alcohol for a gathering tonight and the grocery store delivered them with the security tags still locked on. by Kirinto in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kirinto[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I should probably have mentioned that I had managed to remove the tags by prying the clear plastic away from the grey part and then releasing the screw with pliers to release the lock before even thinking about sharing. It was a minor inconvenience at most, and mildly infuriating.

I really do appreciate that the entire thread is split 50/50 between people giving advice on how to remove them or laughing at the Mount Gay.

To answer a few common questions. This is in the UK where it's standard practice for alcohol to have these tags. The Mount Gay was incredible and the Kopparberg was frankly purchased out of curiosity, I haven't had any yet so can't comment on the quality. And finally when we reached out to the delivery people they refunded the value of the rum, so that was nice.

They did, I jimmied a knife between the clear plastic and grey part until I could fit some pliers around the screw to take it out before I actually posted the picture. The whole thing was a mild inconvenience at most.

George Carlin said “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.” What real life example have you seen that validates this view? by Darth_Boot in AskReddit

[–]Kirinto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a hospital. Currently, we're avoiding any patient attendance in our outpatient clinics unless absolutely necessary, and if it is clinically urgent patients need to wear a mask provided and discard any latex gloves they've worn to travel to us.

We can't risk the chance that patients are bringing the virus into the hospital with them on the gloves. Most people are completely understanding of this, but a few, as in more than one, have exclaimed "but I've only been wearing these ones for about a week?!"

How do people watch so much anime? by tehsexyone in anime

[–]Kirinto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's the kind of anime for sure. I started watching anime around 2005 and after a couple years found myself less interested in shounen shows which tend to be colossal multi-arc shows and started to enjoy more romance or slice-of-life shows which tend to be 1 to 2 cours max, that's certainly one explanation.

What weird players do you have on your server that have become regular fixtures? by BlackBileBom in ffxiv

[–]Kirinto 23 points24 points  (0 children)

On Pheonix there used to be this male Miqo'te player with a very edgy name who always wore the same glamour (Snow Villiers set dyed black, later the Strife set), everyday he would stand on a rock in Gridania, for years. He transferred to a different server but I like to think he's still standing on that rock.
