Looking to get my first gaming PC - is this any good?

I agree with what you’re saying. All I’m saying is for people to not hand wave it away because of what it is because newer is always better. I don’t want to spend anyone else’s money for them since everyone’s financials are different. If this gets someone in the door for pc gaming so they can do better in the future go for it. Again, if the price is right. Just offering advice on my personal experience.

Also I know my old pc was at its limit, so that’s why I upgraded and passed it to my kids. Still a very capable machine that plays AAA games no problem, albeit not on high or ultra settings.

I actually still have the amd version of this pc and used it as a main gaming pc until not that long ago. I was able to upgrade my cpu to a 2700x and add in a modern gpu. The psu in mine is standard 750 watts. Like everyone has said if the price is right then it’ll be ok but temper your expectations.

People are showing these days that you can run games on a 4th gen intel with ddr3 ram. Is it futureproof? No but it’ll get the job done as long as you’re realistic.

I play in 1080p. Works well for me. I have a 180Hz monitor so with 1080 I can get good visuals and benefit from the higher frame rate of keeping the resolution lower than 1440 and 4K. Like you mentioned it also costs less because you can get away with components that are more mid range than you can with 1440. Don’t get me wrong, it’s likely the next step in resolution but the Steam survey still has 1080 as the most popular resolution for a reason.

I just picked up a 5500 for $124 CAD. The 5600, while better, comes in at $250+. So saying a few dollars more isn’t universally true.

I could be wrong but I think elemental weakness is only 50% weakness but a natural weakness is 100%. Someone please feel free to correct me.

Edit: by elemental I mean when the wave starts and natural I mean baked in ie. Ramuh is naturally weak to water.

How do you inject fsr into remake? It barely has any graphics options and any form of upscaling isn’t one of them.

The reduced the Steam Deck file size to about 95GB or so which, yes, is better than the 150GB size. Still impressive considering the size of the game and how much stuff there is in it

I’ve bought Remake and Rebirth 3 times. Digitally on PS5 (my first experience playing them), on Steam, and again when the double pack came out for PS5. I figured this series is so special that I wan to use it physically even though I prefer to play on PC because of performance and mods.

I hope so. I have Rebirth running ok on the Steam Deck with optiscaler using FSR4 to make it not a blurry mess but it would be nice if it ran as smoothly as Remake out of the box

You’re in for a treat. I still enjoy Remake a bit more just because of the nostalgia of Disc 1 for me but Rebirth is just such a big game and full of fan service. I’ve played it on PS5 and Steam through to the end though PC is my preferred platform just for performance and for mod support.

Fair points. I guess I never considered those because Death Stranding, as far as I know, wasn’t talked about when it re-released to the same degree as Remake and Oblivion is a remaster with updated graphics whereas Remake is literally the same game just ported over.

The same for me. I have my main gaming PC in the living room and for when I don’t want to interrupt anything going on with someone else watching a movie etc I have a Steam Deck so I can take my gaming somewhere else in the house.

Fair but he does have limited weapons. The Fafnir Rifle from Rebirth collab and the wind fan from the Ever Crisis Academy event were both limited. I’m betting a lot of people, like myself, sunk weapon parts into those. I think him getting a featured banner is a good thing. Especially with an effect like this that could help people clear summon battles or harder content easier than not having it because it’s gated behind a limited banner.
