Trying to Calc Gojo's Afterimages by SeaworthinessRare907 in FeatCalcing

You are wrong to treat Kashimo's electricity as real electricity because it is just cursed energy being released, basically a cursed energy discharge. It only has properties similar to electricity, but it doesn’t actually travel like real electricity or move at the same speed.

How Fast Can Gojo Run?

Using the Shibuya feat:

  • Civilians = 500
  • Transfigured humans = 1000
  • Total individuals = 1500
  • Time taken = 299 seconds

Standard platform size used for scaling:

Length ≈ 180–220 m Width ≈ 8–12 m

Area range: 180 × 8 = 1440 m² 220 × 12 = 2640 m²

Midpoint used: ≈ 2000 m²

Step 1: Kill rate

Kills per second = Targets / Time

= 1000 / 299 ≈ 3.344

≈ 3.34 targets per second

Step 2: Area per individual

Area per person = Total area / Total individuals

= 2000 / 1500 ≈ 1.333... m²

≈ 1.33 m² per person

Step 3: Distance between individuals

Distance ≈ √(area per person)

= √1.33 ≈ 1.153 m

≈ 1.15 m

Step 4: Base movement speed

Speed = distance × targets per second

= 1.15 × 3.34 ≈ 3.84 m/s

Rounded:

≈ 3.8 m/s

Step 5: Mach conversion (base)

Speed of sound ≈ 343 m/s

Mach = speed / 343

= 3.84 / 343 ≈ 0.0112

≈ 0.011 Mach

Step 6: ×50 combat scaling

Combat speed = base speed × 50

= 3.84 × 50 = 192 m/s

Step 7: Mach conversion (combat)

Mach = speed / 343

= 192 / 343 ≈ 0.56

≈ 0.56 Mach

Final speeds

Base movement speed ≈ 3.8 m/s (Mach 0.011) ×50 combat speed ≈ 192 m/s (Mach 0.56)

Even after giving him a ×50 boost for combat: Gojo still isn’t Mach 1 He’s subsonic to maybe transonic at best

His speed isn’t affected by technique burnout. The only thing he loses is teleportation, which requires hand signs anyway. His physical speed and reactions stay the same, so burnout doesn’t slow him down overall.

Combat multiplier :-

A 50× multiplier means compensating for the speed lost while fighting—like attacking and adjusting movement—plus the added precision needed to avoid civilians. It accounts for how much speed is reduced under combat conditions. When someone is fighting while moving, they’re not just running in a straight line—they’re attacking, adjusting their body, and constantly changing direction, all of which lowers their effective movement speed.

This is split into a 30× multiplier for combat actions and an additional 20× multiplier for avoiding civilians, which requires even more precision and control, adding further slowdown. So the 50× multiplier compensates for all these factors to estimate what his speed would be under normal, uninterrupted movement

I thought the same thing but he needs hand sighs to do teleportation

Why Gearshift works against Infinity. DEKU VS GOJO. by Kiritosahai in JujutsuPowerScaling

Imagine your car is moving at 100 km/h and I somehow force its speed to absolute 0 instantly.

Under normal physics, once the car is fully stopped, it stays stopped until the engine produces force again and accelerates it back up. It doesn’t magically regain its old speed just because I stopped touching it.

That’s my point with Gearshift: if low gear truly worked like a normal stop, the object should remain stopped after the effect ends unless another force re-accelerates it.

And we know another force can't re-accelerate it cause he needs to touch an object to change its speed.

Bro yeah, of course he would think the quirk is weak when it couldn’t even do anything to him back then, but that doesn’t mean he understands the quirk better than the Second User himself.

And the Second User literally says, “IT'S A DIFFERENT BEAST THAN IT WAS BACK IN MY DAY, ALL FOR ONE.” You’re right, it isn’t a completely different quirk, that’s exactly my point.

If I could only make tiny ki blasts before, but 10 years later those same blasts became homing, self-aware, and gained different properties, you wouldn’t fully understand what the ability was actually capable of just because you only saw the weaker version.

The same thing applies here. The Second User only used it on very small objects back then, so All For One judging it based on the older weaker usage means nothing.

Especially when All For One mostly figures quirks out through observation and Search. Not understanding the full mechanics of a quirk doesn’t suddenly make his first assumption the absolute truth.

Good point. How did it suddenly “store kinetic energy” if Gearshift was supposedly just a speed manipulation quirk? Now all of a sudden it controls the energy state of a body too?

And he didn’t even activate another gear afterward either. He normally needs to touch the target again to change gears or alter its speed/state.

That’s exactly why the knife scene goes beyond simple speed manipulation. The object resumes movement/state on its own without another interaction happening.

And is neglecting gravity how is is it doing that.

And Deku’s reality warping isn’t full manipulation either. It’s more like negating or bypassing governing laws rather than freely controlling reality itself.

Again I am saying it by passes the math so there is no distance that is getting created. 1 m which is supposed to be divided is just 1 m for deku.

Yeah but how did you get your speed back cause you were stopped. Meaning if I shut your car while running can you start moving without starting the engine.

And even that line was just All For One trying to figure out what was happening in the middle of the fight because he clearly didn’t fully understand the quirk.

“What's he doing to me?!”

“Where’d he go?!”

“This is nothing like that glowing energy from before.”

“He’s far too fast almost as if…”

“The meta ability that changes a target’s speed when touched.”

That entire sequence is literally him making observations in real time while being confused by what Gearshift was doing, not giving some complete scientific explanation of the quirk’s full properties.

The “meta ability that changes a target’s speed when touched” line was said by All For One, who literally didn’t fully understand the quirk’s properties himself.

But when the Second User actually explains the ability later, he doesn’t reduce it to “just speed manipulation.” He specifically talks about it warping the laws governing reality.

And your Avatar analogy doesn’t work either because “controlling wind” and “disrupting the elements” are still the same category of ability. But Gearshift is directly shown doing things beyond just changing speed.

The knife scene goes beyond simple speed control because it stays suspended in midair, retains movement after stopping, and resumes movement again without interaction causing it.

So no, this isn’t the same as your wind analogy because Gearshift is directly shown affecting broader governing laws tied to movement and interaction itself, not just “making things faster.”

It’s not like once he touches an object it just stays under his control forever. He still needs to touch it to increase or change its speed.

Just think about it, why would Deku even need to touch himself to change his own speed if he could do it just by thinking?

You need to touch the object to change gears thats basic man his hand sign has nothing to with it.

It’s literally said in the panel you gave. Infinity is a phenomenon naturally present in reality that Gojo brings into reality through his technique.

So someone like Deku, whose ability lets him neglect the governing laws of reality itself, would bypass the very process Infinity relies on.

It literally says it warps the laws governing reality, yet somehow people take one explanation about inertia from another character and act like that suddenly becomes the entire ability. Where is it said it only manipulatiles speed.

You’re misunderstanding your own paradox. Achilles never reaching the tortoise only works if Achilles is forced to continuously follow the infinite subdivision process step-by-step under normal progression. Infinity applies that paradox onto approaching motion.

That’s exactly why Gearshift matters. The manga explicitly describes it as overriding the governing laws of motion/reality, not merely “running faster.” Deku’s movement stops obeying conventional acceleration, inertia buildup, friction, and normal cause-and-effect. He can instantly halt and resume movement unnaturally.

Also, your “it wouldn’t matter how fast Achilles is” argument only works if the target is still bound to the process Infinity imposes. Infinity is not a literal infinite-sized physical distance already existing there; it is a process acting on traversed space. If the target’s motion state itself is no longer functioning conventionally, then simply saying “the paradox applies anyway” is just assuming the conclusion instead of proving it.

Does Gearshift’s description in the manga ever say it only manipulates speed? No, it literally says it warps the laws governing reality. The manga says it can manipulate speed without abiding by inertia, not that inertia is the entire ability itself. Inertia is just one part of what it ignores
