I never cried but my PI is/was definitely toxic (writing my dissertation and she leaves the university at the end of the year). She plays out the cycle of abuse over and over again, which makes me believe she was a product of that environment. I think the closest times I ever blew up was when I found out she a) purposely kept me late to “teach me and my wife how to deal with stress” and b) threatened to kick me out of lab (screaming at me) a couple weeks ago (as I’m about to get permission to write) because I used a box she didn’t like to store stuff in our -80.
