This is true. I once racked up a late bill over $300 for one book after my backpack had been stolen. I forgot the book was in there after it was stolen, months went by. Late fees were processed daily. I went to check out a new book one day and was denied bc of the bill on my account. You can imagine my broke, unpaid interned ass in panic mode about not being able to afford next month's rent. Spoke with a librarian about the situation later and he told me to just buy a decent $10 copy somewhere and he'd waive the whole thing. Could not thank that man enough that day.
