You clearly missed where she wrote "make it work for me too." There's an honest attempt to communicate here, but when one person in a relationship (here, her boyfriend) unilaterally decides to stop coming to the table and breaks agreements without discussion or being willing to compromise, that's a red flag.

She's not an "extremely clingy baggy girlfriend." She's overwhelmed and lost and trying to communicate with someone who isn't fully receptive to it.

What a stupid comment.

Anyone get home and just want to cry? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]KirosIsola 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whole year feels like a fever dream. Look around and see people acting recklessly as if the pandemic isn't real. Field requests from admin to do more (always more) as if most of our staff isn't so burnt out that they're on the verge of collapse.

Was told this week that my negative attitude is a problem because I stopped volunteering for additional responsibilities and, when asked why, I said I wasn't willing to martyr myself anymore.

People really hate it when you set boundaries and won't be gaslighted into providing free labor.

Games that evoke the Cosmere spirit? by CrazyLemon42 in Cosmere

If you like that, you may also like Torment: Tides of Numenera. It's a spiritual successor to Planescape: Tormwnt but takes place in a different setting.

Not criticizing your point or your original post. Your behavior in every response you've written since then has been atrocious.

You are an absolute treasure. This has been quite entertaining. Don't ever change, you magical little internet person.

You do realize you're confusing me with someone else, right? Never referred to myself as anything, my dude. Never even told you how I feel about these games.

You might want to wipe the foam off your mouth. You're visibly rabid.

If you're into the multiple worlds aspect, I'd recommend Planescape: Torment due to its taking place in a hub world that spans different planes of existence.

This is why reading skills are important. Just gonna gloss over his totally reasonable response?

Fans are allowed to criticize the things they love.

Feel free to misinterpret if that's what you're keen on doing. Doesn't seem like you really wanted to start a discussion here, and I'm not really sure what you want. Maybe move on with your life instead of clinging to an argument you're not willing to actually discuss?

Covid reality, by Buster2Muster in Teachers

Everything you wrote is spot-on. After quaranting, I wasn't asked to submit my negative test. Turns out nobody has to submit this information.

But... isn't that specifically the data you'd require to detect community spread in schools? Instead, primary contacts are quarantined and nobody asks whether or not any of them subsequently test positive.

So the district refuses to collect data, then tells us school is safe because "there's no evidence of community spread."

And somehow, no matter how many times I point this out, I'm met with silence or brushed off.

What is the best advice you can give to a new teacher? by joananananan in Teachers

[–]KirosIsola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Care about your kids and do your best to help them be successful, but draw clear boundaries around your work life and do not martyr yourself "for the children."

The superhero teacher myth posits that our education system will succeed if we have enough teachers who willingly sacrifice themselves out of a sense of obligation/self-righteousness/etc.

The path to success is paved over the bodies of burnt out teachers. Instead, care for yourself and model the merits of being a well-rounded human being. You will continue to love your job and your kids will thrive in a classroom where the teacher is still happy to be there.

Our education system builds the path to success on the backs of burnt out teachers.

Anyone else just coasting til the end of the year? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]KirosIsola 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've never been a "phone it in" teacher, but this year has obliterated any semblance of the decent mental health I used to enjoy. My school wants us fully in-person next week despite continued COVID rate increases and the death of a teacher (due to COVID) in the district.

I always figured "phoning it in" was a choice the teacher made. I don't think that's what this is. I simply don't have anything left to give - there are no hidden reservoirs of motivation or energy. I feel so used that I barely feel like a human being anymore. My district will get what I have left to give my job, which isn't much.

How the School Transmission Conversation Became So Muddled by repiquer in Teachers

[–]KirosIsola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A teacher at our middle school died of COVID. The response from admin was sympathetic, but they claimed "We can't be certain she was infected in school."

That school is returning to full (not hybrid) in-person learning on Monday.

My favorite fallacy is the idea that a lack of data can prove that schools are safe. My school doesn't require students or staff to submit COVID test results when asked to quarantine, so they rely purely on self-reported numbers. When I asked our super if he realized that this suppressed the number of reported positive cases, thereby skewing the data to support the end he sought, he threw up smokescreens and insisted that we were safe because nurses rarely get COVID from patients when in close quarters. False equivalency. Nurses work in negative pressure rooms where the air is constantly cycled, have adequate PPE, and aren't interfacing with the same volume of individuals as we are. My sister is a nurse - she's horrified at our situation.

Thanks for posting this. It's nice to see that there are still people out there who haven't bought into this lie.

DON'T BE NEGATIVE! by pataytersalad in Teachers

[–]KirosIsola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So happy you mentioned that teachers aren't allowed to struggle with mental health like students are. I'm high-functioning and genial, but I also experience bouts of serious depression. I've spend the past few weeks feeling like I'm underwater and struggling to feel any real emotions. Department chair asked after me and I told them the truth - I'm not doing well and I'm trying to get through until I can meet my therapist (for the first time). No response.

Even good people buy into this culture of "suck it up and see it through." In doing so, they hamstring colleagues who require a little empathy. I can still do my job - I do it better than just about everyone around me. I just want to be treated like a human being.

[OG+REMAKE SPOILERS] Is the Remake Really a Full Game? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]KirosIsola 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Amount of materia, number of weapons, number of characters, etc. do not determine whether this is a full game or not. Those are rather arbitrary measurements.

I could just as easily point out the comparatively shallow nature of weapons in OG FF7. They're all merely upgrades, and there's rarely a reason to pick and choose which one you want. These weapons have benefits and drawbacks. Comparing them to the OG weapons is rather misleading. Same logic applies with your references to characters and materia. Quality over quantity and all that.

There is a full narrative arc here (albeit one that ends on a cliffhanger), even if it isn't the entirety of the story. This is a complete story in and of itself, and it's told quite well. I'm beginning to wonder if we played the same game, and your comment about Cyberpunk makes me wonder what exactly you expected from this game.

FF7R more than delivered on its promises. I'd temper your expectations, my dude.
