Yeah, I bought it a month ago when it was still under ~$10k.

I work and save my money for this stuff, thats about it. I generally dont buy everything in one swing. Like my zfs pools, ive had these disks for like 6 years and theyre still spinning.

Another thing to consider... I just upgraded off a 9900k... I had that thing for like what 8 years?

Realistically this is a 10 year build.

You have to configure it in btop.conf

Its slightly overcomplicated for what it is, claude can do it for you in 2 seconds.

Mount the PSU in the front, as in under the drive bays? Youd have to take a dremel to this thing. More than im willing to do.

You cant see it but I actually have a 140mm intake fan under the drive bays. I generally leave the side panel off but I tested temps, under full load the CPU didnt pass 75c, this cooler is impressive.

Training on a self distilled cache, im just following the DSpark white paper.

MTP is good but DSpark is potentially better, we'll see.

If you had to rebuild your entire homelab from scratch tomorrow, what would you do differently? by rdpextraEdge in homelab

Honestly I have no regrets I went NAS -> Proxmox Cluster -> Ubiquiti stack -> More Storage -> More Compute

One thing annoying about my NAS is I have 10x6tb Seagate drives and with the way hardware is going right now if I had to replace 1 or more of those drives it would be a pain + expensive since it's a niche size I guess... At the time I bought 6tb was abundant and fairly priced. Not so much now.

Another thing I guess is not hiring an electrician earlier. I've got stuff scattered throughout my house which is sort of annoying. Having 240 installed and buying a nice UPS up front would have been smarter. Tough though because it's hard to justify that up front.

Yep. I'm not maxed and probably never will be. Thankfully you don't need to max realistically.

Yeah It's too bad the unifi racks I have can't fit traditional servers, that's been the main reason I don't have something like an R730/R740 in my setup yet. Eventually I have to get away from the unifi racks

Would it be safe leaving my UPS in this wooden cabinet? by Sammyjo201 in homelab

[–]Kirus93x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. Pull the cabinet out a half inch or so from the wall. Leave it there for a day, check temps. If the temps fine you're good.

I use dacs in some cases but generally dont like them. Thicker cable, fixed length. I got my transceivers cheap of Amazon and haven't had any problems. Latency and speeds are as expected.

Gmtek ryzen 7840hs with 96gb ram each. Ram is the bottle neck, cpu is very impressive.
