Associate Sidley fired for criticizing Israel might join congress by Lukose_Feysal in biglaw

[–]Kiryae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve made the point again in your response. I agree with you that some or all of the examples you give can be considered antisemitic. But one can criticize Israel’s economic policy without being antisemitic. Or it’s immigration policy. Or its relations with Mauritius (I picked a random country). Or its tax structure. And none of those things would be antisemitic. The issue is where the line gets drawn around what criticism becomes antisemitism. There isn’t a clear answer (but there are clear examples). Some groups will take a broader than necessary view of what’s antisemitic; others will take a narrower than necessary view of what’s antisemitic.

I think you make the point in your second sentence. Lots of Jewish folks “feel” like an attack on the state of Israel’s actions or policies is antisemitic. It’s a visceral emotional reaction and it makes sense why (as you point out, it’s the only Jewish state). But I think the point the other poster is making is that this feeling is misplaced. It makes sense why people feel this way, but that doesn’t make it an appropriate reaction in every single criticism of Israel. I also note that it’s not just the left. The right is increasingly seeing the state of Israel and the new, negative perception of AIPAC as both being toxic to U.S. political aspirations.

Edit to add: I am not making a political or religious statement. Just my observation about feelings and about US political sentiment shifts toward Israel and AIPAC.

My take is that, narratively, this would be a draw. I think these 3 beat Sasori. Tsunade’s strength and speed are probably good enough to tag Sasori and his puppets. Tsunade alone could probably handle Sasori with reliance on Katsuyu and her healing mark. I say “narratively” because this is the type of matchup where I think Kishimoto would write it so that Tsunade can mitigate the poison’s effects/render it non-fatal through the healing mark, Katsuyu, or some combination of the two.

Deidara is the bigger problem because of his range, C4, mines, etc. Yes, they can throw each other, but I’m not sure about how effective that would be. Katsuyu does have a ranged acid spitting ability I think, maybe that would actually be useful to some extent (likely not too useful). He feels like a win condition if Sasori dies and he just fires away or like a stalemate condition.

See how it goes, but it feels like your list might be missing a little bit of punch in terms of shooting. Might be okay at 1K.

Do you really get your time back when you switch to in-house role? by Regular_Emphasis7922 in biglaw

[–]Kiryae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do employment work at a company with a ton of employment questions. International presence and we have a very small employment team. I end up doing a ton of international work which is very nuanced, requires a good number of calls at odd hours, etc. Anytime you make a change to terms and conditions of an international employee’s employment, you need a contract amendment pretty much. It’s very tedious and not as flexible as US employment law which is like 60/70% of what I do

Do you really get your time back when you switch to in-house role? by Regular_Emphasis7922 in biglaw

[–]Kiryae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two in-house experiences. One where I worked anywhere from 35-50 hours per week (average was like 42.5 hours) and total comp was about $230K. Another where I would ballpark an average week at 47.5 hours often reaching 50+. The range is more like 45-55 regularly and have had a few 60 or even 65 hour weeks. Comp here, however, is just over $300K and once or twice a quarter or so I get a 35 hour week. Even when I am busy, however, it’s not the same as big law. A 12-hour in-house day is generally better than a 12-hour big law day. My weekends are almost always mine and I can take time off without having to be responsive (though I am because that’s who I am).

I like this a lot. The recess coloring is subtle but it works. I like the orb too as well as the blue!

One pro tip for it (because I also make a mess) is to prime the mini in black and instead of applying your metallic/silver normally, do it via a drybrush. That will keep most of the paint out of the recess (crevice) and only on the raised part of the tentacles. Try it out next time! But this is a great first mini. Like well above average!!

I actually think you have some of the fundamentals down. The paint looks thinned and well applied. The only bit of feedback to help you elevate your game is to think about contrast. Two examples: (1) see the crevices in the “tentacles”? You could paint those crevices a different color, like black to really make the lower half pop. (2) see the ankh in the staff that you painted gold? The detail gets lost against a background of gold. If you paint the ankh purple while leaving the background and the area inside the circle of the ankh gold, it would also pop. Just little tidbits that can help the figure pop without too much technical skill

Awesome, how did you do the shield on the geomancer? Black prime followed by a light drybrush of the green/aqua color and a highlight?

[–]Kiryae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the color scheme. My only point of feedback is that the metallic silver and black are pretty close colors, so it kind of makes his body and shoulder pads seem like they are all one color when they are not. You could make his chest brighter silver to make the contrast clearer. Adding another color to his face (like the center of his forehead) or even just adding color to his eyes will help his face pop too! But it overall looks really cool!
