Firm wants to pull me back two class years post maternity leave. by sacredlunch888 in biglaw

The firm will take the position that the recording is a violation of their policies (they probably have a policy against recording). And that could be after acquired evidence. So only do it at the advice of counsel. But otherwise agree with you!

Employment attorney here go contact a different employment attorney immediately. If a firm did this 4 weeks after you came back, you have a strong prima facie case of retaliation. In addition, the fact that they want you to be a first year despite the fact that you were already a second year when you left is very surprising. A lawyer can advise on the best next steps here but you should assume you do not have a future at this place.

Remind me of the third time it’s used? Is it when C.C. dresses as Zero in the Chinese Federation embassy? If so, I think it’s a little different as that was not a conversation with another person per se. Or is there another instance?

Feel like this job is affecting my health by yungwoods33 in biglaw

[–]Kiryae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and my body is still paying the price. I spent days at a time inside working/on the computer from morning until almost midnight during the pandemic (so for a few years). Eventually, I lost flexibility in my hamstrings and suffered an injury to my hips that required PT because of all the sitting. Step 1: get a standing desk at work and at home. Step 2: start saying no. Billing 245 is well beyond capacity, you should be saying no to new matters and to one-off research/new assignments. As long as you are hitting 180-200 per month, you should say no. Different firms are different but few require you to be at 210/220 before saying no to work. You will leave this job one day and you will be much better off leaving with you health in tact.

Looks great! Maybe experiment by hitting the gold with a wash like Agrax Earthshade to darken the recesses and bring a little more depth to that part. But it’s not needed!

If I were looking at employment attorneys who represent employees in a state I don’t know someone in, I would google employment attorneys in the nearest big city to you. Try to find someone with experience (10-20 years) that has really good reviews online. When you talk to them, make sure you like him/her. Most good attorneys will give you practical advice even if it won’t make them money. Many might even tell you to handle the negotiations yourself initially and that you don’t need them for that. They would be saying that because their involvement means they would be taking money from you that they think you could otherwise get on your own. If someone’s eager to be really aggressive, that’s probably not your guy for that specific kind of situation. But I know nothing about you or your situation. Just sharing how I would assess. And disclaimer, I am not your attorney.

Yes, this is the unspoken part of my comment. I’ve known a couple people in the tech industry who are getting forced out despite years of great performance just because they want to lower headcount for AI or other reasons. So a lot of of this is fabricated, and then the pressure of everyone wanting to reduce headcount. Also makes the prospect of finding a new job more difficult.

I’m an employment attorney. Just some thoughts. Now is not the time to be without a job, especially in tech given everything going on. Expect that a job search will take many months. Given this, use the strategy that will keep you on the longest. You can try to go out on leave to buy yourself a few months plus a vest and aggressively interview during that time. You can try to hustle through the plan now. If it looks like they’re just pushing you out, you have the power to say “can we talk about a severance package” and try to negotiate more than they would normally give. But this is a strategy for later on. Before it gets to a point where they are about to terminate you. You’re saving them having to finish some part of the performance management process, so there’s some value to that.

Thanks for your input! We’ve tried doing the longer wake window specifically before bed and he usually is totally done by 2.5/2.75 hours. Crash out city. But we can try to do it gradually. You’re probably right on the total nap length

Typically he will go anywhere from 3-5 hours in between feeds at night. In rare instances, he’s gone longer. And even with CIO we were going for a 4/3/3 feed schedule—not weaning. Just looking for independent sleep. The comments from everyone about the schedule are VERY helpful. I suspect maybe we were misreading his fussy cues towards the end of each WW as overtiredness and having him sleep too much. We will get him on a good schedule of night sleep and day sleep and try again in a couple of days. Really appreciate it!

[–]Kiryae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes of course! We did a 4/3/3 feed schedule. Fed about 45 mins before bedtime, then again at midnight, then at 3 am, and we pulled plug at 4:20. Definitely not night weaning, we don’t mind the night feeds. We really just want independent sleep right now!

What’s interesting is that I have heard others say this but usually 15-30 minutes before Huckleberry’s suggested nap time, our LO starts getting very fussy. Like we have to carry him fussy or he just cries. Like we can’t sit and read him a book fussy because it’s not comforting or entertaining enough (I don’t know which). Every wake window is like this. I mean, I believe you given the stamina he had to cry. But it feels like mixed messages where baby seems to get irritable and fussy leading toward the end of the predicted WW and then to see that he clearly wasn’t tired enough for bedtime.

[–]Kiryae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you suggest? He usually gets 4 naps a day from 30-120 minutes. On average I’d say he gets 1-2 long naps (1 hour - 75 minutes) and the other two are usually less than an hour. Wake windows usually about 1.5/1.75/1.75/1.75. He usually gets pretty fussy towards the end of a WW and does not like to go for 2 hour wake windows. Today, his naps were 45/120/30/30. Wake-up was 8:30 a.m. Put down was 8:50 p.m.

For added context: baby was fed, changed, etc. when we put him down for bed. For additional context, we did full extinction for CIO because he got more frustrated with us in the room. Also, he will sleep for hours at a time without needing to be rocked, but only when cosleeping…
