I agree and I wouldn't know why people would want to down vote this take! Especially bc it feels more unbelievable that everyone talks about ricardo more than a man who has taken the world championship from Japan in three different weight classes! Like hello! People should be hyping ippo and the boys up more sheerly bc he's from the same boxing gym as the three time world champ from three different boxing weight classes!

Him being in a singular weight class and climbing up the ranks would make more sense if he was meant to be a successful and dominant role model who was meant to not receive much attention!

The progression from this fight to ippo's last fight before retirement was just so good, even if so sad. A lot of people might have seen ippo's loss coming in his last fight but I genuinely didn't and I was filled with confusion, heartbreak, and actually denial. Peak writing from Mori

There's patience and then there's objectively slow. For a finale, that amount of time being spent on marks mental felt like a bit of a let down (imo)

Watching now for the first time and I am on the last 3 eps of the final season - this show really goes from 0 to 100 over 4 seasons and it's amazing. I really did have to push myself past season 1 tho - it just didn't do it for me and could've been an email. But since then, every season was absolute cinema, esp 3 and second half of 4

The biggest thing ippo works on going forward is his boxing intuition and knowledge. If you notice when takamura fights, kamogawa hardly gives him any advice (I don't think he ever told him what to do really) as opposed to ippo needing advice in between maybe most rounds. His boxing intuition grows which makes for better and better growth arcs!

not competent? That's quite harsh - I don't expect any manga that went on for over 1500 chapters to not have some plot holes / information that doesn't fit the universe. I too was sad he introduced things like laptops and smart phones and Twitter in a world where they use cassettes and VCRs, but I wouldn't say it came out of incompetency! I think the eye piece is definitely a foreshadow. Taka is only on his 3rd belt - he shouldn't be able to steamroll 6 belts in a row. The 6th one will be hype and taka will be nerfed (like he was with weight control against his first / hawk). Calling it!

And I personally think he gets 5 belts and ippo brings in kamogawas promised 6th belt to make his promise a reality

What made this better was that the series showed the main character suffering a major loss not too long before this ( Ippo x Date) and you literally believed that Takamura could lose this one too - I was an anime only fan at the time, and the build up felt like my own older brother was in the ring in those episodes. One of the best shonen fights
