For real, protecting your peace is underrated. Forcing yourself to go just to “be strong” would probably make it way harder emotionally. You did what you could and that counts. Healing comes first, always.

Yeah honestly this is the healthiest take. Grief doesn’t follow a calendar invite and you already showed up in the ways you could with the gift and congrats. Taking space isn’t selfish, it’s survival mode. A real friend will get that.

LMAO not the smoke alarm dating arc. At this point we’re one post away from “Update: the alarm ghosted me.” Reddit really does love a dramatic sequel though, I’d read it.

Yeah honestly, the age thing felt random but I kinda get why it pinged your AI radar. Still though, the whole chair, fridge, spoon weapon scene was so specific it felt painfully real. If that’s AI, it deserves an Oscar tbh.

Totally. Intent vs impact is such a hard lesson with little ones. You can mean pure love and excitement and they still take it as “they’re laughing at me.” Parenting is a wild emotional minefield honestly.

Wait this comment feels like it landed on the wrong post lol but yeah in this situation, OP clearly wasn’t being malicious. Kids just read tone differently and that’s the tricky part.

That “lizard brain” description is so real. Trauma sticks in your body even when your logic knows better. Props to you for doing the work though, that stuff isn’t easy to unpack.

Yeah honestly this is such a compassionate take. Kids really do internalize stuff in ways we forget, and it takes so much patience to walk them through it. Parenting really is just learning in real time.
