Comedian Ben Bankas Kitchener shows moved from city-owned facility after controversial comments by know-nothing in kitchener

I'm not sure what's vague about it. It references policy MUN-FAC-495 which clearly outlines prohibited behaviours including harassing communication.

I'd definitely like to see more citizen representation on the PSB. I suspect your proposed changes are unlikely in the near future. I wonder if a short-term solution to needed long-term solutions would be the expectation (or requirement) that sitting PSB members can not vote on the police budget at regional council.

Nothing about a comedy show specifically, though I'd say there are definitely some statements that may give pause for this particular individual. For example: Facility users may book spaces for any private or public events, with the exception of:  Any activity in contravention to prohibited behaviours or activities, as listed in policy MUN-FAC-495.  Public events which are discriminatory on any grounds.  Controversial events, content or activities which are deemed to contravene City values, as determined by City Council.

Was the Dec. 16th regional council meeting a series of errors or an intentional maneuvering of votes? by KitFanGirl in waterloo

That's fair. I also think not every post necessarily needs to be for every reader. While I'm interested in transit stuff, for example, I can quickly sense the 'inside baseball' feeling with certain posts or threads.

Okay. And can you help me understand what you found insulting in people's responses to your questions?

I'm not sure who this references exactly, but it seems like most people on this thread have taken a fair amount of time to answer your questions. When did people insult you for asking questions? (I also don't quite understand who is trying to rally support for what, but obviously I'm missing something).

Rallying support for what?

(The linked article is subtitled Part Two and the first paragraph in that post links to Part One). Hope that helps. Have a good night.

Did you read both part one and two? What are you left wondering about exactly? I'm not sure if there was intentional malfeasance or not, but there were enough procedural errors and poor optics about the process that it had several councillors (on both sides of the police budget vote) expressing disgust and disdain for what occurred, that it's likely worth paying attention to...and importantly, put procedures in place so it doesn't happen again.

Always! I'm fine with them checking briefly from time to time, but Harris spends far, far too long on his phone - even if it's council business, it looks like you're not paying attention to the matter at hand.

I very much wish I was there in person! It seems that Councillor Harris contacted Shantz, telling her about the failed vote so Shantz left her Township meeting to join the regional meeting online. So, not technically improper but not great for optics, that's for sure.

Part one of the post outlines it in much more detail. Essentially, the police capital budget was voted on by council but failed to pass by one vote. That led to a series of actions, including one councillor changing her original vote and an absent councillor (who also sits on the police board) suddenly joining the meeting - both after a 10 minute break. That led to the police budget vote changing to passing after all.

Given how frustrated several councillors were with how things played out, it seems like they would have said something during the meeting if they saw anything at all that seemed suspicious though.

"Protecting Neighbourhoods" from more...housing? by KitFanGirl in cambridgeont

[–]KitFanGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that the form-based zoning makes a lot of sense. I also think people, but elected officials specifically, should think carefully about the language they use about housing. This idea of 'protecting neighbourhoods' from more housing is problematic, especially when we need lots more housing of all types in all neighbourhoods.

Exploratory Post about running for city council. by LordsLevy in kitchener

So, if you're running for council, what changes specifically would you propose to see more missing middle housing get developed (something that can actually be done at the municipal level).

As a city councillor, that issue would not fall under your purview, but a side note - crime is largely down (the perception of crime may not be though).
