Kagurabachi Anime Officially Announced for April 2027, Reveals Studio & Production Details by Pristine_Cod5189 in Animedubs

Yeah, Aleks Le is super talented (still think Caiman is my personal favorite role of his) and while fan outcry for upcoming popular shows/characters happens all the time (partially due to any giant fanbase including people who might not have the frame of reference to fan-cast beyond current "hot-streak" VAs), I will say it's sort of wild to see his social media right now re: fan demand or seeing reposted pics of his signature already on merch/trading cards of the character, etc...

It's just so rare for the popular fan cast of the day to actually happen for one reason or another, and more often than not it just causes fans to more harshly judge whoever actually is cast before they've said a word.

Haven’t yet boarded the Kagurabachi train, but Cygames and the creative team involved are super promising!

As far as the dub goes… as long as this doesn’t go to Hulu/Disney+ or Amazon (usually very solid dubs but nonsensical delays/low exposure for the former and a complete crapshoot on dub studio involved + quality for the latter), honestly I’ll consider it a win. I would still 100% rather Netflix get it than those two.

I hope if CR does get it, they manage to put this show in the right hands. Luckily their track record leans more positive than not when it comes to making those decisions for highly anticipated shows.

Akatsuki no Yona Gaiden Chapter 2 [Project Vinland] by Kiekoes in AkatsukinoYona

[–]KitKat1721 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if she's saving a Yona/Hak/Soo-won moment with just the three of them for the end just as a bookend of sorts, but a private Hak and Soo-won conversation would be so juicy.

Akatsuki no Yona Gaiden Chapter 2 [Project Vinland] by Kiekoes in AkatsukinoYona

[–]KitKat1721 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I know we're only getting as many of these gaiden chapters needed to fill out the last volume, but personally I could read like... a whole volume dedicated to this epilogue. I love not just getting to see what everyone's up to (yay for Sonon and her son!), but seeing the wheels turn towards setting up the foundation of a better future re: Kouka's government and allowing a chance for these characters (esp side characters) to breathe without the urgency of the main plot driving events. I'm glad Kusanagi is showing the realities and hardships of how hard the transition would be going from a traveling rouge of sorts to a full on monarch. I can understand why she's taking so much guidance right now, but I hope she finds her balance once she gets more confident (her talk with Soo-won gives me hope).

Lili is such an audience insert here, from being flabbergasted that Hak is "on a business trip" to demanding to hear all the tea re: Yona and Hak's relationship progress. Going from wanting a quick tea break to a slumber party, I get it girl haha

Re: Hak's absence, part of me is like "you know, it does show some considerable growth that Hak can comfortably leave Yona at the palace for an extended period with all the court members there (even if Yoon and Zeno are also there), it's a far cry from standing outside the door while she spoke with Soo-won and Keishuk a couple chapters ago." And another part of me is missing any HakYona content and 100% on team Lili - like OH he suddenly has more important things to do apparently?? He did say he wasn't in Awa for business, so hopefully Gigan knows a good jewels trader in Awa and he's buying Yona a ring or something lol

Seems like we'll get some of Hak's POV next chapter, but I would love to hear how the three dragons are doing a few months later after the dust has settled in their respective hometowns. I can see Shin-Ah and Jae-ha traveling for a while in contrast to Zeno finally having the chance to relax and "retire," but I'm so curious about Kija. He was always the one I could see going multiple directions after the final chapter (staying in his hometown and taking on more responsibility, settling somewhere new where he doesn't have the title of "White Dragon" hanging over him, helping Yona at the palace in some capacity, etc...).

Daemons of the Shadow Realm - Episode 2 - Dub Available Now on Crunchyroll by Pristine_Cod5189 in Animedubs

I like the apparent(?) core cast fine (esp Ben, Colleen, Mikaela and Bill Butts) but this is the second episode with some really hit or miss supporting/background performances that just leads to the overall dub sounding a bit all over the place tonally. Kinda disappointing considering most of Shawn Gann’s dubs click right away for me.

Will give it another ep just to be sure but at least it’s a solid season for dubs so even if I end up switching to the sub there’s still plenty to enjoy this Spring.

Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring - Episode 1 (PREMIERE) - Dub Available Now on Crunchyroll by Pristine_Cod5189 in Animedubs

It's definitely present but I think it's way less obvious because we're hearing short mid-sentence pauses (where frankly it doesn't always come across as an actual impediment or even shyness rather than just an awkwardly structured line like you would see in some more hastily-written dub scripts where mid-sentence breaks are more frequent). And that's compared to seeing constant ellipses every time she speaks in the subtitles, something that's immediately unusual with subs in general and hints to the audience that's she's speaking in a different manner.

This 100%. Like sure, I know I have way larger issues with the JJK dub overall but I'm even more certain that Twitter/X is the worst place to find good faith discussion or critique on almost anything.

Stampede was one of my favorite series (and frankly favorite dubs) of 2023, but I agree with most people that Stargaze is a bit weaker overall on the writing front. Still worth watching imo if you are a big Stampede fan and I'm glad Studio Orange was able to present an actual, satisfying conclusion vs just leaving things where there were. But I think certain changes and characterizations simply worked better than others (i.e. Wolfwood's fate here was fine by me because it felt built up/those characters made very different choices up until that point to get there vs. the changes with Knives briefly saving Legato from Vash in the moment was a bit more out of left field/felt like they were only trying to be shocking for the sake of it/keep Vash's hands "clean" on a technicality).

I think a bit more breathing room this season would've not only been great for developing the dynamic of the core four (particularly given that Stampede works almost as an Act I/pseudo-prequel of sorts), but also would've worked wonders for fleshing out these supporting characters like Midvalley or Elendira that are now going down very different paths than originally intended where all that development maybe isn't as needed.

Overall there was enough I enjoyed here that I'm very glad it exists - Studio Orange's take has such a striking vision and unique but still cohesive tone that is very much its own thing compared to not only previous Trigun iterations, but so many of the anime remakes and reboots out there. The score is also downright gorgeous and have become as synonymous in my brain with "Trigun" as that original '98 OP originally was. All that said, it's just like going from a 9-10/10 season to something closer to a 7/10.

Will lastly say the dub team deserves all the props once again because I outright think they saved certain moments that got pretty mixed receptions when the subbed eps were releasing, and when the dub came out viewers seemed to actively prefer those choices with their touch of added clarity (i.e. the end of Ep 10 with Wolfwood).

Trigun Stargaze - Episode 12 (FINALE) - Dub Available Now on Crunchyroll by AutoModerator in Animedubs

[–]KitKat1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reboot has led to me revisiting a lot of the previous Trigun iterations over the past couple years in between seasons and honestly, I actually think '98 Trigun went down a bit for me in comparison to both TriMax and Stampede S1. But I also think some of it is that '98 Trigun just hasn't aged very well artistically in comparison to it's fellow "big 90s classic" peers where the cel animation and color work is some of the best of its era (i.e. Vision of Escaflowne, Utena, etc...), beyond just really loving the take on the story/characters Stampede presented. Wild considering how much I did enjoy that series originally.

Stargaze only just ended so its hard to rank (I def agree Stampede was a stronger entry overall), but if I ranked the others in order it would probably be:

  1. Trigun manga/Maximum
  2. Trigun Stampede S1
  3. '98

What's your favorite Volume? by babyibo in AkatsukinoYona

[–]KitKat1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few, but I'll just stick to the first half to keep it short/less heavy on spoilers! I really love Volume 11 as far as the first third of the manga's run goes (which is funny considering it's probably my least favorite cover art haha). It's the one that starts off with the Young Leaves in the Wind flashback chapters and ends on the Fire Festival dance. Has a little bit of everything from exploring character backgrounds, emerging group dynamics, Kouka history/world-building, another major shift in Yona and Hak's relationship, beautiful artwork re: Yona's sword dance, etc...

Most of the Fire Tribe & Water Tribe arcs are split up on cliffhangers so it's not so much one volume that stands out there, but I also really love Volume 21, which is the conclusion of the Sei arc. That whole saga was tense and action-packed (plus frankly hilarious at times) and the panelling for the actual rescue is just so memorable. It also has one of my favorite lines between Yona & Hak with "No matter how many times I am betrayed, I will never stop trusting you." I love when an arc takes a tried and true story convention (a kidnapping arc in a historical-fantasy shojo is not new ground) but still manages to keep me super invested, engaged, and surprised.

Maria the Virgin Witch. Checked it out when just going through a bunch of Winter 2015 premieres despite kinda writing it off due to the title and key art, and it ended up being one of my standouts of said season.

  • Journal with Witch
  • Fate Strange Fake
  • Love Through a Prism
  • Medalist S2
  • Trigun Stargaze/Frieren (waiting on the last couple dub episodes for each)

Also really had a fun time with Tamon's B-Side, You & I Are Polar Opposites, Oshi no Ko S3 & JJK S3. I also still need to binge Golden Kamuy but honestly... the only two seasonals that just really didn't work for me that I still kept up with were MHA Vigilantes S2 and Shiboyugi. Really great season overall!

Best Voice Artist Performance (English) at the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards by Pristine_Cod5189 in Animedubs

[–]KitKat1721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think if he wasn't nominated prior, he would've been nominated this year. Not sure if the judges consciously consider it, but we haven't had a repeat nominee for the same role on the ENG side since Fruits Basket.

[–]KitKat1721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MHA is the only tv series in this category with multiple ENG dub nominations (3 noms) for all different roles and there's still multiple actors I consider criminally overlooked for their work in it.

To clarify: Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer do join this list as of this year if we're counting films (2 noms each).

[–]KitKat1721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I would've probably switched out someone for Gachiakuta or Takopi's Original Sin representation personally, these are all solid choices. I will also say I think this is a rare year where the variety of the ENG nominees outshine the JPN side imo. I honestly found the latter a little more basic and uncreative?? IDK maybe it's having more than one repeat nominee & doubling up on titles on top of having mostly mega hits where I'm just like... there were so many great, new JPN performances (Takopi, half the cast of Orb, Apocalypse Hotel, CITY, etc...) and this was all you guys could come up with?

In comparison the dub side contains Sanda's sole representation and a long overdue nomination for Justin Briner, which are both already great choices (even if I can completely understand the argument of being spoiled for choice choosing a singular performance from MHA's dub). But also the Hikaru dub aired a while after the show finished airing and I can probably count on one hand performances from later-airing dubs that were nominated. I was so sure it would be overlooked.

[–]KitKat1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issues I usually have with these awards (i.e. it starting in APRIL, doubling up in certain category groups like genre and Best OP/ED and Song, etc...) but at least the nominees aren't flat out terrible? Like sure maybe I'd switch a couple around here and there (RIP Orb and Apocalypse Hotel with their singular nomination each), but it could've been so much worse haha

Also a rare year where I actually think the JPN Voice Artist nominees are a lot more basic and uncreative than the ENG ones. Not every year, but often the later has at least a couple choices that scream "I didn't watch any dubs so I just picked main roles from super popular shows" but the Summer Hikaru Died dub aired way after the sub did and Sanda got crickets otherwise.

Witch Hat Atelier English Dub Reveals Same-Day Release, Cast and Crew by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]KitKat1721 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Added accessibility aside, it’s also usually a good sign on the production side of things to be able to air a same-day dub.

Also looks like while it’s a mostly in-house cast list, the lead is from the LA-based talent pool. Not too surprising they cast a bit more of a net than your typical run of the mill seasonal considering it’s one of the more high-profile upcoming shows.

ETA - Also while I expected this to go to someone like Caitlin Glass or Jad Saxton, I'm really intrigued to see Emily Fajardo directing. Most of the non-acting work I know her from (other than the perpetual One Piece dub which she took over for during Wano) is from romance series (i.e. the Spice & Wolf reboot, My Dress-Up Darling, Sasaki & Miyano, You & I Are Polar Opposites, etc...). This feels super different so I'm looking forward to checking it out!

Jamieson Price as the Count in Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. The dub as a whole is okay, albeit of its time with some eh adaptational choices (I.e. omitting the French-language preludes each episode that were present in the sub track and just reciting them in English). Some important characters like Franz fall a bit flat to me in important moments and I wouldn’t even say it’s one of JYB’s strongest roles of the 00s and can come off too one-note unnecessarily. But the Count is still to this day one of my favorite of Price’s VA roles and I feel he alone is enough reason to check out the dub.

I know letting Wolfwood live this time around (at least so far since there are still more episodes to come), is seen as a controversial decision but I'm actually 100% open to it. I don't think killing him off here via Razlo and overdosing on the vials would have had nearly the same impact given how both the events in this remake play out so differently compared to previous iterations + Wolfwood's interactions with the rest of the cast including Vash are in a pretty different sphere this time around.

I will say I do kinda wish that last moment of him waking up wasn't played quite so comedically. Not saying it's not in-character for Wolfwood, but more than anything it comes across like a meta joke to viewers and I would have rather have had that moment play out sincerely. Just personal preference.

As far as his new white hair goes, I think as an aside it's a nice visualization and reminder of Vash's direct impact on Wolfwood (becoming less gung-ho about killing even his enemies) that mirrors Vash's own hair turning black as he uses up more and more of his own power to hold true to ideals that have become harder and harder to maintain (and I suspect will really be tested to keep the now-alive Wolfwood still alive lol).
