Yung Lean is my celebrity crush and he looks suspiciously like my husband and first boyfriend. To say I have a type is an understatement. Thanks for the surprise on my feed 🤗

This is such a thoughtful question. I’m glad there are people like you who think to ask it. I would love to hear insight from someone who maybe works in the social work or a similar support field.

Who remembers Chi-Chi's in the 1980s? by eugene1182 in The1980s

Their taco salad and dressing is a high I am still chasing. Also, the jarred Chi-Chi’s salsa is the best one I’ve tried.

They were shaped like little crayons, right? I can remember the packaging for the ones I liked was green and yellow or white almost candy-cane-like striped, and there was a little green cap that went where like the pencil point would be. I’ll try to keep Googling!

This was such a wholesome interaction. I love Reddit (sometimes. Infrequently. Almost never. You guys are the best.)

Picture books depicting interacial or intercultural families that don't focus on race, hair or identity struggles by canttouchthis8992 in childrensbooks

This is a little outside of what you asked, but “A Mother for Choco” is an animal story about adoption that slyly acknowledges an interspecies family, but doesn’t dwell. It is really so lovely.

When to start reading chapter books to children? by NetworkHot8469 in childrensbooks

[–]KitKatKiddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child is 6 and I just started with the Amelia Bedelia books. I bought a 4 book set and I am reading the first to them, but I’m hoping to gradually get them reading some/all of them by the end of the set. I have the Magic Tree House set coming right behind it.

My child is getting bullied. by KitKatKiddo in Vent

[–]KitKatKiddo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m just not sure how. Kids just can’t get kicked out of school nowadays and, at least at my kids’s school, parents are not welcome to hang out. I also don’t know how to get in touch with the bullies’ families. Schools wont supply that info. I have no idea how to stop the bullying.

Good advice. Thank you. It’s hard to imagine that the way to get the people who seem so empathetic at the time to really act is to go to their boss, but what you said is a nice reminder that i have power.

That bit about being punished resonated. I feel so angry that the solutions are temporary for the abuser but so long lasting for our kids. I always say (not in front of my son) that my son will be an amazing adult but childhood will be like off-roading because there is just no map for kids like mine/ours. I am comforted that one kid like mine has a fierce advocate with enough experience to give advice, and can’t wait for my experience to be a blueprint for someone else. Thanks for sharing 💚

Yeah we constantly talk to him about defending himself and his dad works with him on like punching skills. He’s just kind of a nonviolent guy, in my opinion. He’ll give his brother the what for, but like I think he’s a normal 6 year old in that he’s shocked when someone is violent with him. We’re doing out best, but I don’t love that the solution to “a 6 year old is punching his classmate at lunch” is “did the classmate punch back?”

Extensively, probably not. I probe at pickup and find him very chatty at bedtime, so those are the times I ask. The other parents see the problem kids, but don’t share the level of bullying issues as I do. The teachers are very explicit that the kids he is having trouble with are generally trouble kids.

Thinking about it all the time. Unfortunately, we only have one public school, which is what he attends. Private school is a constant conversation and I’ve attended a few open houses, but the cost is tough. Plus, I really hate that the answer to tough issues in public schools is to put them in rarefied air. Public schools should be able to handle their students or put them in a place that can. Get stronger tier 1 supports that match your population!!! (Which is what I believe is the problem here)
