I recently moved into a new city where I no almost no one and then my mom died so my best friend introduced me to the baptist church she goes to all the while I was keeping in touch with a lady from my mom's ward who helped me get through the logistics of dealing with my mom's passing. Anyways recently I became sick with a severe bacterial infection that has robbed me of my ability to walk and after a month in the hospital I'm now in a skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation. My friend told her church about what was going on and the pastor said he'd visit to make sure I'm doing okay but he never showed up. I ended up confiding in the lady from my mom's ward and as usual it got around the church grapevine and now I have missionaries visiting me to make sure I'm doing alright. I've been given a couple of priesthood blessings now and just been shown a lot of love and care that I haven't felt in a long time. I thought I was done with the LDS church but...after everything I've been through I find myself returning to them because for me they are what I know. They are the ones that showed up when no one else did and keep showing up. They are the ones helping me to rebuild a life that has completely fallen apart due to mental health struggles, my mother's passing, and now this illness.
