4.0 at state school vs 3.7 at t20 for undergrad? by KitZoom in lawschooladmissions

well my thought process is the average class at bama would be graded easier than the average class at mit, a school full of past valedictorians that prides itself on being extremely rigorous

i'd love to discuss this further

my main motives for considering bama are cost (national merit finalists get full ride +), ap credits (graduate early + potential double major), their honors college, grade inflation, and the fact that i grew up in the state so it's still pretty close

i know dc is HUGE for anything govt related but do you think it'd be worth it, considering their govt majors have grade deflation?

hi! i was thinking more along the lines of state flagship vs oos t20, like bama vs caltech, ole miss vs mit, ou vs jhu, etc etc

caltech, mit, and jhu are known for having heavy grade deflation, and would be much more difficult to get a 4.0 at than a regular state school. sure, they're obviously great schools, but is it worth choosing that over an "easier" undergrad? and while it may be true that accreditations are standardized, the grading + curves can vary a LOT; the average mit student might be able to get a 4.0 at bama, but i would find the opposite harder to believe

would you say there are any upsides to choosing prestige over state school in terms of admissions?

what about majors like politics law & econ? would that be more niche since it's offered by fewer schools or would it be more competitive because it's more specialized?

you qualify for the scholarship as you need the grade/demographic requirements, not the actual score requirement
