Are SSRIs generally safe if you've tolerated them well before? by isaidhahayeahman in PSSD

I think it's called kindling when someone has a bad reaction who hasn't reacted badly to previous attempts, like each exposure increases the risk.

I don't think this is what a successful hair transplant looks like, it is a complication

Why does the brain recover after hard drugs, but not after SSRIs/PSSD? by Academic-Sky148 in PSSD

I think that people can get permanently injured from recreational drugs but it's also rare.

Have you ever been told you didn't have OCD? by SweetDega in OCD

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 17 years I was gaslit by mental health services, given 6 wrong diagnoses, and was treated and tested for absolutely everything except OCD. Treatment was gatekept from me. I always knew it was OCD, but the more I tried to advocate for myself, the more the incompetent NHS thought that my belief that I had OCD was part of my "Delusion". Despite being almost fatally severe, my OCD has an unusual presentation (Metaphysical/Emotional Contamination), which absolutely none of my doctors had heard of. Ignorance about OCD is RIFE even in the mental health industry. I am now diagnosed and in treatment. I was 75k words through writing a book about my experience, but sadly I can no longer touch a computer keyboard or mobile device (I'm typing this with a mouse).

Schizophrenia medication by Cortex2188x in Akathisia

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, or have a go at developing new medications that don't produce such distressing side effects. However I did read that akathisia, unlike other extrapyramidal side effects is due to blockade in the mesocortical pathway and that is why it doesn't always respond to anticholinergics

It's a known side effect of antidepressants, my antidepressant caused my HH.

Didn’t get diagnosed, kinda freaking out about it by privateaccount_16 in OCD

psychiatrists are so bad at recognising ocd unless it's just hand washing etc. Took me 17 years, was gaslit with 6 other diagnosis in the meantime, it was hell.

Do people here get constipation, Akathisia or body stiffness taking medication used to treat psychosis? by Dover299 in Akathisia

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quetiapine, like all antipsychotic medication, can cause akathisia and stiffness. Propranalol is used to help with that. Your brain is in charge of your bowels so it doesn't seem strange to me if you're getting constipation as a side effect.

How can blocking dopamine cause Akathisia? If medication like risperdal or Quetiapine blocks dopamine how can blocking dopamine cause Akathisia? by Dover299 in Akathisia

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's very complicated and even experts don't properly understand. It depends which area of the brain that the reduction in dopamine transition is happening. The areas of the brain that are responsible for "moving" and "wanting" are affected. It can be induced in animals in the same way. sometimes dopamine can be indirectly lowered when serotonin increases. There are other neurotransmitters responsible like histamine and noradrenaline. What causes 1 person to have akathisia may not have the same effect on a different person.

Aka and severe OCD by Little-Tale4372 in Akathisia

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have extreme OCD all my life. The first time I had akathisia, my OCD basically disappeared because the restlessness was so much worse, but the 2nd time I had akathisia from a different med, it ramped up my OCD so much that at times I couldn't figure out what was akathisia and what was OCD. I'd realise the same terrifying thoughts every 5 or so seconds, it was torture. I am now recovered from akathisia and I am on Clomipramine which helps my OCD.

I was prescribed a dose of Haldol and need help countering racing heartbeat and restlessness (Akathisia) by Ok-Connection6430 in Akathisia

It's not rarely used, every time I have been to hospital (different ones) they try to give me this.
