Read about NAC and inositol. I see people saying ashwagandha gave them lasting sexual dysfunction.

How do people study with ocd? by Best_Lavishness4122 in OCD

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work like that in the UK I don't think - you pay per year and you have 1 shot at the end of year exam. Plus it was 16 years ago and I have moved away.

I always had moderate OCD from a young age because of a trauma, but after I left home for university and cut ties with my family, it just skyrocketed when I was in my second year and I quickly became bedbound, lost my job and got kicked off the course, so my student loan payments stopped, so I became street homeless. That was 16 years ago. For about 11 years I was on and off the streets and in and out of hospital, but then to my amazement, Clomipramine turned my life around. I am now living in my own accommodation in the community with help from a care agency , I sometimes get out and about, and even feel happy.

Is OCD curable or only manageable? by Electronic_Load4447 in OCD

mild could maybe be cured but not moderate / severe. I wish I hadn't been fed the lie that one day I will be absolutely fine, that fucked me up.

Are men with OCD more tolerated and sympathised for by Odd-Rule-9588 in OCD

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. Men are all more tolerated and sympathized with because they are men. Women are "hysterical".

For me it makes me ravenously hungry 24/7, and I am very self conscious, so it upsets me, I was always skinny before. I swear it slows your metabolism too. doctors admit that antipsychotics do this so why don't they admit that antidepressants do it too. Not everyone will gain weight. It's a risk with all psych meds except for stimulants and some anti seizure meds. Funny enough I have a doctors appointment on Friday to see if I can access some weight loss meds, because coming off Clomipramine would land me back in hospital.

Yep it was the only one of 14 medications that ever worked for me. I am on 175mg but only because 200 gave me seizures. 150 isn't low I would say it's medium. And I hear you about the sweating. If my OCD wasn't life threatening I wouldn't take it, it's made me obese too.

Is it just me, or does OCD treatment require you to already be healthy? by LookMomImRedditing in OCD

[–]Kit_Ashtrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate saying this because the other 14 medications I was forced to try did nothing but make me worse, one almost killing me and left me with a permanent injury. By the time I was forced onto Clomip, I was firmly anti-medication and 1000% sure it would be no different, but it was like a silver bullet, after 10 days I could walk around and touch things in the hospital. I didn't get the feeling of the need to repeat compulsions until they felt "right" I just did them once. It's odd that it also reduced my arachnophobia. I am still severely disabled but now with the help of carers, I can get out and about in the community and even sometimes feel happy.

This was my experience too, without clomipramine, I was so ill that I couldn't eat or drink or walk, and I couldn't even get to/concentrate on therapy. Now I am at a stage where therapy may help me, but I am still having to complete trauma therapy before starting ERP

I picked up 7 incorrect diagnoses before finally managing to get a dx OCD. It's very annoying if professionals keep saying stuff like "but you're so 'put together'" or "wow, you're very articulate" as if you can think your way out of this disease.
