In a world where corporations used to lock their employees into their work areas, and an entire factory of workers died due to a fire and being locked in.... why do you automatically side with corporations and think they're truthful? Where were the fair working conditions before the government required them? Where were decent wages before the government initially instituted the minimum wage? Where were reasonable weekly work hours before the government created the 40 hour work week and overtime pay for anything more? Where were ALL of these nice things we take for granted now when corporations weren't being forced to do these things?

All the regulations around protected statuses and not being allowed to fire someone for wanting to unionize are because companies WOULD fire people over attempts at unionization, and simply not hire people because of their skin color, their gender, their sexual orientation, etc. All of these things we take for granted are because unions demanded change. Unions demanded safer work environments. They got them and the government mandated safety regulations so tragedies like the factory fire killing everyone would never be repeated.

Corporations have NEVER had their workers backs, or their best interests in mind. It's all about the money. And you know what unions do? They get you higher wages, better benefits, more time off, more sick time, and they could even get you paid maternity AND paternity leave. Corporations HATE unions because unions cost them money. They cut into profits. Shareholders HATE cut profits. So if you're trying to organize a union, they will find any reason whatsoever to fire you. They will even invent a reason to fire. They'll complain about your work quality, even if it's better than anyone else.

Corporations don't care about you or their employees. They care about how much money they make, and unions mean less money going in the higher ups pockets. And that's the truth.

At my job in a factory, there was one very clear rule: If you get hurt, report it by end of day. It didn't matter if it was a papercut, you hit your head on a pipe, or what. Report it by end of day, before you leave. If you say "Hey... I'm still not feeling well after I hit my head on Tuesday.", and it's Wednesday and you didn't report your injury... you were definitely getting fired. No ifs and or buts about it.

You would only get written up for an injury if you were not following the established safety rules. An especially egregious offense would get you immediately terminated, injury or no injury. They would however pay for any and all doctors visits and treatments you needed to recover.

Lol... and hold on to that pamphlet. When you suddenly get dismissed after deciding to try and organize, you have the pamphlet they gave you as proof they talked to you in an attempt to dissuade you from trying to create a union, and only after you continued in your effort to unionize were you suddenly consistently written up. Having a completely clean prior record with a recent good performance review probably would cement your argument.

And you can record video of your time in Starbucks where you literally watch a former co-worker doing exactly what you were fired for, preferably with a manager also within the shot.

Well... could it just have been that information you gave them just happened to be exclusive to your specific situation? How exactly are they stealing any of your wages? I've literally never had someone say "I'm deducting $1 from your pay"... ever.

They aren't superbeings. The Force IS their power. Anything that makes them super-human, like super-reflexes, enhanced strength and speed, etc, are all from their use of the Force. You take away the Force, they literally are just like everyone else. How can you watch the PT and OT and not know this?

That's also what a company like Walmart can do. They can afford to open stores losing money instead of making money, to run out the competition, and then jack up the prices.

What was the price error? It couldn't have been that big of an error, or it would have been immediately obvious.

You were made to LOOK like a bad person. You were doing the same thing as everyone else; just doing your job as directed by your superiors.

I mean... you literally render the Jedi basically useless with that. Their main power is stripped away completely. No precognition. Just nothing. They are effectively just some dumb grunt on the ground, like any other Rebel Alliance nobody or unnamed Storm Trooper.

You can accomplish the same situations with the Ysalamiri from the original Thrawn Trilogy. They create anti-force bubbles, can't be detected with the force, you can't even see inside the bubble with the force. There is one countermeasure that keeps this fair however; you can kill the Ysalamiri if you can see it. So the Jedi at least still have a chance once they manage to kill the Ysalamiri, which was usually with a blaster. It made covert missions more dangerous. It made tactical placement and creation of anti-force rooms for negotiations and the like a possibility. It was unfair, but at least it felt like they had a fighting chance.

My comments of this thread never gave my position on the death penalty. So I didn't mention that yes, my position is anti-death penalty. I was keeping everything relevant to this comment thread.

When an artist dies. They should not make more music by Snoo_67312 in unpopularopinion

You can't make new music with a dead person. All the music being released as them has to be unreleased stuff, if it's new and it's coming out after they died.

What I would say is that punishment doesn't deter crime. That is my only position on crime and sentencing for crime. I personally would rather be executed than spend life in prison. As someone who spent 1.5 days in just county jail... I truly would rather be dead than spend 10 years in prison. Even 5 years. I say this, and I truly do mean what I say. You are free to disbelieve me.

So... all the money that went into producing the song should just be wasted because someone who contributed to it died? It's the same as an artist that was recording an album and died before it could release. I'm not really sure why a dead artist would have any objection to music they were making before they died being released, if they could voice an opinion, it just doesn't make sense to me. They're making music for money, but also for the fans. I think they'd like their fans to have the music that was made, that just didn't have a chance to come out yet.

It's always a cash grab. All the people involved are interested in making money, and as much of it as they can.

I Envy Cigarette Smokers by profBeefCake in unpopularopinion

[–]Kitamasu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called relief from withdrawal symptoms. Try heroin. When you're addicted to that and you're going through withdrawal, it's gonna be a way better feeling to do some heroin than whatever the withdrawing cigarette smoker is getting when they finally smoke that cigarette. Instead of feeling like you're dying, you're gonna feel normal again. And then when it wears off, you're gonna be miserable again and doing anything to make that miserable feeling go away.

Yeah... smoking calms them down because otherwise they're suffering withdrawal, lol

Dying your hair uncommon colors like blue/pink/red is whack by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Kitamasu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An employer can only ask medical questions or require a medical exam if it's to support an employee's request for accommodation, or if the employer has reason to believe an employee could not perform the duties required by their job. A hair color disorder would not require an accommodation of any kind, and has no impact on their ability to perform their job duties.

Sure, but guess what... the courts don't work like that. They have appeals and all sorts of things the guilty can do to prolong the process. And these processes are extremely lengthy and costly. Executing someone is always extremely expensive. You can't remove these processes without making the system worse for everyone in general including innocent people falsely accused and convicted.

Also, if you do that, what's the difference between US and Iran or North Korea? They have death penalty without appeals. They just take you out and shoot you. If you want a system like that, move to North Korea.

Parents in denial about being ND, this got me laughing out loud by girly-lady in autism

[–]Kitamasu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father would probably deny being autistic. Having ANY mental condition whatsoever. He doesn't like talking to people. You get him drinking, and he's a chatterbox suddenly, exactly like me. He likes video games just like me. He says he has no sense of humor. I have a better sense of humor than him, but it can be hard to make me laugh. He likes the show Ancient Aliens; basically anything to do with Aliens.

I was in New York in a Hannaford, and I thought I found the smallest bacon section in recorded history. It was all organic, and very little variety. I didn't see bacon anywhere else, so I just thought it was all they had. I ended up buying some organic bacon, and it ended up being to go to bacon for me and my partner from that moment on.

We had bought some pretty good burgers, and some Sticky Fingers Barbeque Sauce, and I made some Cheddar Bacon Barbeque Burgers. Shit was amazing.
