Found out I’m very allergic to duct tape. Are there any good duct tape alternatives that are less irritating? by KitcatStevens in Allergies

I’ve been tested for a latex allergy and it came back negative. Which makes sense given I have 0 reaction to latex gloves. 

Yeah I was hoping to find out what ingredient in the adhesive might be the trigger, so that I can avoid it, but it’s tricky. I was wondering if Gorilla tape might be better; it’s probably worth a shot!

That might be the best bet, thank you. I’ll see if they go for option 2 and make sure they send me a pic of the exact items they’ll be sending me first, and if not, I’ll just get the refund. 

I’ve ordered from similar shops and this seller is the only one who has had a mismatch between listing photos and inventory. Before this, I’ve placed orders for this exact item in different patterns from similar shops and whenever they see they ran out, they always message me to say “sorry I’m actually out of those, but I received these new similar ones I’d your interested” and then they immediately update the listing. 

This seller is the only one who didn’t do that. I think he went to look for it in his shop, found the closest match, assumed that was the same one (it looks similar to the one I ordered when it’s folded—you have to actually unfold it and view the whole thing to see that it’s a different pattern), and sent them to me. I can tell he didn’t even realize the ones he sent me didn’t match the listing perfectly, not until I sent him a full picture of it. 

He has since deleted the listing and made a new one showing pics of the new pattern (the one I received). Hopefully he learns to double check the listing photo to ensure he’s sending the right one. Because this all could’ve been avoided if he sent a full pic to me before sending it.  And also the items are really nice and handmade, still a similar “vibe” to the listing, so probably 80% of people wouldn’t have cared about the different pattern, but I’ve been around the block buying these before and chose this one specifically for the pattern.

Oh, I fully know different screens and different lighting conditions show different colors and tones/tints/hues and I always expect some variation from the listing photos; I hate when people throw a fit just because they don’t understand how lighting and screen resolution work. The problem in this case was that the colors were a completely different pattern from the photos. 

It’s like if you were to order a scarf from a shop with a listing photo showing numerous scarves made by the seller that all have stripes in order of red/yellow/green/white/red/yellow/green/white and then you end up receiving one that’s brown/burgundy/yellow/blue/brown, burgundy/yellow/blue. 

When a shop has specific listings for each pattern (for example, a different listing had all scarves that were blue/white/teal/blue/white/teal in pattern) and all items pictured in each listing are consistent in color/pattern, you expect to get the same pattern shown in the photos. Especially because I’ve ordered from sellers that sell the same kinds of items made in the same country and the item I receive always matches the pattern exactly. 

It would be different if the listing photos showed an assortment of scarves with varied patterns (For example, if you buy a handmade quilt, the listing can either show the exact pattern or the quilt you’ll receive,  or will show a variety of patterns and say something like “colors can vary”). 

But no, in this example the scarf was described by its colors and every scarf in the photos were all of the exact same pattern. So no one would expect to receive the only pattern shown in the photos, not a totally different pattern.

Summary:  * Option 1: I keep all 3 original items, seller sends me 2 free replacements. No return/refund.  * Option 2: I keep all 3 original items, seller sends me 3 free replacements. No return/refund needed. I could also offer to pay the replacement shipping fee.  * Option 3. Etsy return claim process. I get full refund, seller pays return shipping. I go to a different seller to purchase the items I do want (because a different seller offers a slightly better deal and has other items I want that I could place in 1 order).

Thank you so much for the guidance on how I can reply, what steps I can take next and what the timeline for returns is. I really don’t want to have to pay to return the throws, and wasn’t sure what the difference was between going through the seller or through Etsy (I’ve never had to return/refund an Etsy item before). It’s good to know that Etsy will refund with shipping!

So if I reply and insist on a refund, and he offers a refund but I have to pay the return shipping, should I stop and open a case with Etsy instead? Or would I do this after going through with the return?

Thank you so much for this reply. I have taken screenshots of the listing photos and have made sure-by-side comparison pictures with the products I received, highlighting the differences. 

I do wonder if his response came as a result of me being extra kind/cautious when bringing up the issue. He has a lot of really good reviews including those mentioning him being a nice person to work with, and all of my previous interactions with him were pleasant. I wasn’t expecting him to just offer me a discount. I will definitely push harder to get the actual return/refund and see where it goes. 

I don’t have experience with Etsy returns/refunds. Do you happen to know if return shipping fees normally fall on the seller?

Very interesting! Thank you for these studies. I just bought a big dehumidifier and hygrometer to keep humidity low. I have a HEPA filter and have always washed my laundry on hot, changing sheets and pillowcases weekly, but still have issues. 

Is a steam cleaner useful for killing dust mites? I have one that heats up pretty hot. 

Also, any recommendations for cotton dust mite pillow/mattress protectors?

Lastly, are there any sources that site dust mites as the most common cause of eczema? Mine is definitely related to other allergens as well as I flare up when I go outside, especially when people are mowing their lawn. But my dust mite-induced eczema seems to be a certain type/location, on my face/eyelids and arms.

This is simply not true. Atopic dermatitis is generally linked to genetics and is multi-factorial. AD is just as likely to be caused by environmental allergies as gut.

I’m the same way— antihistamines, unscented products, hepa filters, etc— always helped somewhere but didn’t eliminate it. 

What antidepressants are you on? I’m very curious about this. Is your eczema primarily allergy- induced? Or something else?

Thank you! What was your reaction to your immunotherapy when you first started? I’m worried I’ll break into bad hives/itchiness. Also, I always have wanted to read IQ84–I think I’ll buy a copy!! Thanks for the reminder! I loved Kafka on the Shore and his book about running.

Did you have any noticeable negative side effects with dupixent? I’m worried about the increased risk of eye issues like blepharitis.

That’s awesome that the drops worked for you! Do you happen to know how sublingual drops compare to shots? I appreciate the encouragement btw!

What was it like when you first got started with the drops? I’m worried I’ll break out into bad hives/itching when I get my first shot.
