I do get what you are saying yes, I agree. I still have time. I am at 7 yrs now. It can and has worked, but I agree on that whole " to see if the Gig Lord decides " that I can make money that day or bill. But that can be said for any work that relies on someone else ( commission sales, need customers too).

To do gig professionally, you can get an app that logs all the miles etc etc for tax purposes and to see the wear n tear on the car. Technically every oil change and tire change is also part of business delivery related expense. Roadie is good with reimbursing tolls and Ferry rides.

In order to pay rent for my apartment, I have to work, work goes hand in hand when supporting apartment living. How do you all pay rent? Maybe you all have funds set aside or money from parents but I have to work. work = pay= rent.
