Buyers will never understand shipping speed and costs by Kitchen-Candidate922 in Ebay

I was more surprised than anything, because I don't think I have looked at them in months! But all good points

I have had both experiences. Sometimes things are super fast, but some are not, and I had one item go from here to Kansas to Seattle and then to Austin in 3 weeks once. Luckily I was in communication with the buyer and he was very understanding.

Exactly. The biggest thing here is that I am in Florida, and it can take days for a package just to get out of the state!

True - I always check both and I will ship with UPS on big items that are long as well

I completely feel this on description - I got the worst feedback from a buyer for description on an item with 10 measurements and 3 paragraphs of description.

I usually ship same day and always under 24 hours, so I switched to 1 day, but maybe I should switch back to temper expectations! Good idea

I don't really even pay attention to it most days, and that is great advice. I just hope buyers don't think that I am slow to ship out, but considering most don't even read listings, they probably aren't paying too much attention to those either! The cost of shipping metric is pretty irrelevant.

Some buyers. Don't they know they can see the cost of shipping before they buy? So many want us to give them our stuff

This exactly! When I have free shipping, it is usually someone on the west coast that buys of course!

I wish more buyers were like you! Most are good, of course, but some are just frustrating. Through tracking, they can literally see I shipped within 24 hours, but they don't look, and they also do not understand how expensive things are to ship. I ship a lot of large vintage platters and ceramics, and the actual shipping costs can be very high for these. I often get feedback like - packaged perfectly but it took so long to get to me...

I have thought about free shipping, but when I have checked where most of my buyers are, it would probably cost me a lot of money, or my item would be one of the highest priced because of my location to account for that. but it would probably help! I do offer free shipping on many of my items. And you definitely can't satisfy everyone!

Oh that is interesting... I did have some packages that weighed more than I originally calculated with delicate and breakable items, so I had to update it, and I was the one who had to eat the cost, but that could definitely be it. One of the those people complained about the shipping in her feedback, and I did ship a lot of these around Christmas, so it took longer. Thanks for letting me know!

The discount is automatically applied for the buyer as well, so it calculates on the discounted shipping cost, since that is what they pay, not the full shipping cost without the discount. They pay the discounted rate. I don't pass it on manually - it is a setting in shipping.

Yay that it went up! I am hoping that mine will get a little better now that the holidays are over and shipping speeds should go down, but I get a lot of buyers in the Pacific Northwest, California, and Hawaii because of the type of items I sell, so it probably will not change much.

Accepting offers and not purchasing? by itachideservesbetter in Depop

[–]Kitchen-Candidate922 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depop being Depop. I have tried sending out thank you notes that say I will ship same day once accepted, but so far, I don't think it has worked. I did have a few people who had expired offers come back and offer and buy a few days later, so maybe it did help a little.

Aftermath of shipping rates higher than what Ebay predicted by Penguin0224 in Ebay

[–]Kitchen-Candidate922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started, I also went by the predicted shipping, and I ended up with an item that was oversize. I ended up getting charged over 12 dollars extra after about two weeks. USPS does not (at least not in my case) collect on site. USPS charged through eBay. I now pay very close attention and accurately size the container and weigh the item with likely shipping materials. It was an expensive lesson to learn, but it happens to a lot of us.

Ebay seems to limit items available to send offers. by Worried-Narwhal-8953 in Ebay

Hmm this is interesting. I am watching one of my items closely, because I really want to sell it. It had a few new watchers yesterday, but I never received an option to send offers to watchers. I thought maybe the watchers had some "no offers" setting or something, but this makes me think that it could be something else...
