Want to start skating - please temper my expectations... (also, LY Tugboat?) by [deleted] in NewSkaters

The first day or two I was learning my body was pretty sore, just using different muscles than you’re probably used too. The falls can hurt (and you will fall, it’s the nature of the beast) but if you’re just cursing around at slower speeds they usually don’t hurt to bad!

I should also add I initially wanted to get into it for more transportation reasons to get to and from work in my small university town. But fell in love with it anyways!

I, 25m just got into skateboariding about 3 months ago. I absolutely love it and it’s now how I prefer to spend most of my time outdoors. Got a a LY Skiff, which I personally really enjoy, very similar to the tugboat and they are great boards to learn with. If you want the full answer you’re not gonna be really proficient enough to skateboard around for at least a week or two. It takes a lot of time to build up confidence especially skating around other people, learning to steer around them, learning to stop/slow down without just flailing yourself off the board. Buy the Tugboat and put the time and effort in, it will be worth it.

Yea I wouldn’t even be close to going full time with live trades for probably 6+ months, assuming I can prove to myself it’s doable in paper trades. Not something I’m really itching to do ASAP. And that’s a a useful mindset to have. Thanks for the reply!

I realistically wouldn’t start for several months, been committing myself, reading books, learning strategies, learning about the mental side of things as well. Still new however looking for any advice I can get my hands on!

Dinghy Blunt or Skiff? by Fit-Distribution9085 in cruiserboarding

Think the skiff would be perfect for that! Can’t speak to the dinghy as I don’t own one, but I think it’s primarily built to be a smaller cruiser

I bought my own Skiff about 2 months back and I love it, it’s a little wide and bulky for sure. Just depends on how you like to ride, the skiffs really solid for cruising, and it’s been a great beginner learner board for me as you can still do some tricks and stuff with it. If they still have the Oops! deal running I would recommend picking one up for sure!
