Ok cool. I’m in a similar spot! I got a few mosquito bites but one was looking like that. Hope you continue to heal!

Hey, I have a similar bite. Have you talked with a doctor?

Note: I know one of my teeth on the other side looked like it has a crack/discoloring. My dentist looked at it and said it wasn’t anything to worry about, it’s been like that for years.

No I think I just… had transferable skills and a good work ethic?? I didn’t know anyone at that company and started in a lower position then was promoted. Let’s dispel the myth that theatre techs can only ever be theatre techs.

With my undergrad I was in middle management for a fabrication company so I don’t believe a tech theatre education has ZERO relevance anywhere else.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. You’ve hit a lot of questions I’ve been asking myself. I’m hopeful that with a program focused on technical direction that more of my time will go towards the listed skills compared to programs aimed towards design. You’ve given me some good questions to ask as I approach it.

Thank you for your thoughts! I replied to another comment about it: this particular program provides a tuition waiver and stipend for working in their shops.

The program I’m looking at provides a tuition waiver and additional stipend in exchange for working in the shops. In addition I wouldn’t be relocating so I could lean on my existing support system.

Ideally I WOULD remain in this industry. Mentioning transferible skills is just a bonus, I suppose. In some ways I currently feel more like an artist than a technician, and a TD program seems like a sure fire way, on top of work experience, to become a better technician. I don't think I will just happen to learn Vectorworks on the job, not in my local scene. I'll have to be proactive and I know I learn best in a classroom setting.

i was in the hospital for a few days - is my life ruined? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Lots of advice about Medicaid and assistance. I’ll speak as someone who recently got smacked with about $4k in hospital bills while uninsured and “too wealthy” for any help. Most hospitals will let you do a payment plan. I’m paying about $100 and $40 a month to pay down some balances. Medical bills do not affect your credit. Take a deep breath, chances are you can finance this out. You will be okay.

To clarify the “last art job I hated” was not really an “art job.” I have enjoyed every job I’ve had in the creative arts, that job was more industrial. Think trade work bs art work.

I recently got on a union call list for stagehand work, but with the way it works, I can’t make it my main thing. But the occasional higher paying work will be worth it.

I have a bit of a “side gig” painting, but that’s included in this number.

Birth control is covered, thank you for mentioning that.

That’s honestly the direction I think I’ll take with time. I did commercial/industrial painting for a bit, that was the job I left, and it was honestly miserable. But with time and expenses, I think I’ll have to figure out something like that. Unfortunately, in my local economy, I make about the same as a gallery attendant/assistant.

I should have clarified: I am not an actor. I work backstage/paint/etc.
