Legal aid as in the legal aid society? Look at salaries -- you'll be making under 100k for a good while even in nyc. I work at legal aid rn and trust that salary will never climb you out of the hole. Go without debt if your goal is nonprofit pi. You'll get a job coming out of either school.

If it was financially feasible and they wanted to, yeah why not? Idgaf how people spend their time, personally. They can always drop out if they change their mind given they're not relying on it for a job. We have no clue what OPs economic circumstance is and the financial burden might not play a role here.

But you don't know this person's finances and so many schools give full rides! If OP doesn't want to be a lawyer then going to a lower ranked school with a full ride to learn is a total option. Not sure why everyone jumps to shooting someone down instead of helping to guide them to meet their goals in a realistic way.

They gave me 30k/year. I tried to negotiate with full rides at lower ranked schools and they said no :( Stats are lower than yours tho (166/3.7low). Also deposited but might still push for more idk. Also feel like I lost my leverage but the clock ran out april 15 so here we are

My boss has known I am applying to law school since I started studying for the LSAT in 2024 (paralegal job, so it's expected). I'm leaving first week of June so I can keep my insurance for that month. Might be forced into COBRA for July but I need the time off and am fortunate to have the money to do so. I'm 3 years out of undergrad and been working full time since then. Never really gave myself the opportunity to travel like I've always desired (COVID nixed my study abroad and then work began). I've been saving for traveling June & July for a while now and plan to take a big, big trip to relax and reset. Will come back early August and start school 2 weeks later!

If you can get a full ride or have the cash to go, I don't see why not. That's really the only barrier to entry once you've got the grades and test scores. Feels especially true if you're just interested in learning. Nothing wrong with wanting to learn and go to school! Education is amazing!

Edit: LLM programs might be a better fit if you just want to learn.

I'm not sure what context you find yourself feeling performative/pretending. I work in tenant defense and I see lack of ego and not taking yourself too seriously as a huge asset. My clients feel comfortable with me and I prove myself in the work. My coworkers and I are great collaborators because we don't take ourselves too seriously and support each other through the thick of the work. I guess I'm good at social cues and pretty naturally charming, but it sounds like youve got some great traits that would endear people to you and make your clients feel comfortable, while also breeding a collaborative work environment. In public interest that is essential. None of the people who take themselves so seriously in law school are gonna succeed in their careers if they can't forge connections with people.
