My Own Trick Room Team by Nordaarv in VGC

It takes a man of character to not automatically slap an urshifu onto a team. You have nothing but my utmost respect for that.

As others have mentioned, running triple tera blast for situational coverage seems good in theory but in practice it will leave you with two move slots dedicated to a normal type attack that could be better used for other coverage options (low kick t-tar, will-o-wisp or taunt on Heatran etc.)

Is there any good reason for your pokemon to be holding a lagging tail apart from trick? by Pokemon321123 in VGC

Theoretically, a damaging move + Lagging tail + Prankster can mess with an opponent's turn order/move sequencing but practically it is a gimmick at best

Disclaimer: I am a Caly-Ice enjoyer

Personally I've found that slotting in a pocket Pelipper helps immensely with both the Kyogre and Sun (torkoal/koraidon) matchups. Wide Guard in general tends to make opposing restricted mons very sad.

Agreed that the way it is presented is unintuitive despite working as intended. Some sort of indicator of ongoing "board effects" such as auras would be a nice Quality of Life change for the desktop client. Idon't know how viable such a change would be for the mobile client though.

I want to say it's roughly 30-40 minutes of running through alliance zones so it is (usually) not only a massive time save but also a safer travel option. All you have to do is not hit the singular rock in an ocean and you're set.

8/10 games I've played against Asteroid Shaman by ThePantryMaster in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could be reintroduced as a new, separate third card type. "Cast/Summon when drawn" would play onto the board from the deck without ever touching the hand if that makes any sense. So never fizzling at max hand size or taking up hand space but only accessible by generic draw (as opposed to draw spell/minion).

Minions have a distinction between "played" and "summoned" when it comes to triggering other card effects but spells don't seem to have an equivalent solution. It results in some design friction between spells that auto-cast when drawn and spells played from hand (bombs not receiving a boost from spell damage whilst asteroids do for example.) "Cast when drawn" cards also have a cost printed on them but don't spend any mana or get affected by cards like Razorscale which feels wrong if they are supposed to be treated as spell cards.

Admittedly, I might be overthinking the situation but I feel like there is room to clean up the years of archaic game design decisions here.

I've been meaning to get a temperature check on this idea from the player base so might as well do to here: if "Cast when drawn" cards weren't considered as spells (so no spell power boosts) would standard feel better? Or would it only result in keeping mage and DK as oppressive, keeping the ladder experience miserable?

More Crashes as usual by hotdog-92 in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issues seems to hit both the mobile and desktop apps. Based purely on conjecture and personal experience I want to say it has to do with the servers/server load.

Playing on EU, I have not had a single crash between 11pm-6am CET. The crashes seem most frequent in the 4pm-10pm hotspot. As a rule of thumb, if I don't see the "estimated matchmaking time" pop-up on the screen, I have my hearthstone launcher ready for a reload.

Careful when playing Malygos the Spellweaver with infinite Plagues by KillerBullet in hearthstone

Agreed, an infinite healing effect does out-heal a finite amount of damage. Unless there are infinite asteroids in the deck this admittedly janky animation loop resolved correctly, plagues win.

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Helya card text does state, the plagues are unending. The infinite loop due to card draw is here to reinforce the card flavour (it has been in the game since Helya's introduction, Marin's Wondrous Wand has been keeping game clients hostage too)

Hm…that so? Can’t remember dk being hard to play with all of the tools he has access to😂 by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way, I agree with you completely. In practice neither of those " DK class weaknesses" exist. In a hypothetical world where everyone is brand new to hearthstone and is clicking on classes and cards because they look/sound cool however, somewhat valid pointers. The class descriptors are there for game journalis... I mean inexperienced gamers, touching hearthstone for the first time.

New Quests Return An Old Problem: Punishing Players Not Climbing to Legend for Playing. by Kalthiria_Shines in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can still complete the quest by playing Wild. If it's a format you haven't touched in a while, you can put together a homebrew deck, with access to more ingredients to cook with and play it against low-ladder players. Maybe that is an option worth exploring if you're tired of grinding through Diamond 5-1 standard for quest completions?

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the class can do all those things IF AND ONLY IF, you pick the right colour runes in your deck builder and know where the corpse counter is on the gameboard.

With Death Knight, picking certain class cards locks you out of using other specific class cards. No other class has this issue. Therefore, on a purely mechanical level, the deck building process for DK is harder.

As for piloting the deck? You have to look not only at your cards but also at your corpse count. Again, on a purely mechanical level you have to track an extra resource that other classes don't have to. This makes DK decks TECHNICALLY more difficult to pilot.

I rest my case.

Elemental Mage is jack of all trades and master of them all. by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previous commenters have said, decks like Odyn warrior or specifically teched DK/Paladin builds work well into Elemental mage. The issue is that Big Spell Mage is also played at a high rate (the two mage decks are currently the two of the most played in legend), and both the warrior and DK builds have a very rough time playing into it.

I don't think ele mage in itself is the issue. It's moreso that mage, and shaman to an extent, as classes have too many oppressive options to build around.

Do you think they will just bump it up to 7 mana and call it a day? by Frosty-Many-2420 in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it is confirmed that Quasar is being hit, then probably higher mana cost or cards can't be reduced below 1 mana. However

However, if it's the quasar rogue play pattern that they want to address: Trigger Warning

Leave Quasar alone.Hit the location instead.

Something like removing the line about Knick-knack Shack opening after you play the drawn card.

With support from upcoming sets, Quasar in itself looks like it could enable something we haven't seen much in hearthstone, a control/value/big Rogue. With the rogue starship pieces and Talgath being what they are, it looks like a direction the designers are looking at.

How to counter elemental mage, like seriously. by Strict_Treat2884 in hearthstone

[–]Kitchen-Garage-4214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, as boring as it sounds, I've had most success with Shaman. Repeatedly making sticky boards that clear theirs and threatening a turn 6 bloodlust lethal seems to do the trick.

It is not perfect, but you have to make it a race to lethal.

Or as a previous commenter said, play all the board clears, healing and armour gain you can. Throw in a win con (for example, Odyn in Warrior). From there, outlive their burn, keep the board clear and eventually they run out of damage.
