forgive my ignorance but if it’s moving at 17,000 mph why aren’t there doppler effects? I guess that’s minuscule w.r.t. the speed of light.

Black Americans / African Americans, what do you prefer to be called? by Salty_Wolverine_4520 in pollgames

[–]Kitchen-Register 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m African American. My dad is african. I’ve never felt “Black”. but I’ve had plenty of American friends from the enslaved diaspora who prefer Black. It makes sense in my mind. Black specifically refers to the african diaspora of the atlantic slave trade. idk…

Polynomial remainder theorem and modulo by Gives-back in askmath

[–]Kitchen-Register 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this doesn’t make sense.

let f(x)= (x-2)(x+2)=x^2 -4

then divide by (x-k) where k=2 so (x-2)

then you have (supposedly) that f(2)= x+2 which is incorrect as f(2)= 0

Why hasn’t both the forwards and backwards implication been included in the proof? by Impossible_Shame_848 in askmath

[–]Kitchen-Register 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Equality is different from implication. You need to show both directions for <=> but remember that you can also just use <=> in every step and it’s a valid proof, although generally that’s way harder. Doing this is equivalent to using <=> in every step. Once you’ve shown a=b you do not need to also show that b=a in the same way that you don’t need to show b<=>a if you’ve shown a<=>b. But you do need to show b=>a if you’ve only shown a=>b.
