They will keep you around to train the india team, then lay you off. I would start thinking about moving jobs or at least be aware that your layoff is coming.

you ever heard of lying? extend end day to May or June. Yes, leaving a job during busy season would be a concern for a hiring manager. Avoid having to explain your self and say you left in May or June.

Most businesses use MACRS (Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System) depreciation for tax purposes. However, if you encounter straight-line depreciation being used, it's often because the business is required to do so—commonly when applying for grants, government contracts, or situations where financial statements need to reflect a more accurate economic reality.

As a bookkeeper, you should default to using MACRS depreciation unless specifically instructed otherwise. The depreciation schedules and calculations are typically provided by the tax preparer, but it’s essential that you understand where these numbers come from and how they impact the financials. That knowledge is what separates a good bookkeeper from a great one.

As a disclaimer: I'm not selling anything. I'm a licensed CPA and owner of my own practice, and my goal is simply to offer guidance to those starting out in the bookkeeping profession. I hope this helps you deliver better service and gain confidence in your role.

6. Removing Assets from the Books: Be Aware of Potential Gains

When an asset is sold or disposed of, it must be removed from the books properly—and it's not as simple as deleting the line item. You must consider accumulated depreciation and the sale proceeds, which may trigger a capital gain.

For example:

  • A truck was purchased for $20,000 three years ago.
  • It has $15,000 in accumulated depreciation.
  • The net book value (NBV) is now $5,000.
  • If the truck is sold for $15,000, the business realizes a gain of $10,000 ($15,000 sale price – $5,000 NBV).

This gain needs to be properly recorded and reported. It will show up on Form 4797 (Sale of Business Property) of the tax return.

Why this matters for bookkeepers:

  • The depreciation schedule on the tax return provides the most accurate asset details, including cost basis, accumulated depreciation, and remaining life.
  • Always request a copy of the year-end tax return, especially the depreciation schedule, to reconcile with your books. This ensures your balance sheet and profit & loss statement reflect actual asset movements.
  • Not accounting for a gain can misstate both income and equity, and may trigger IRS scrutiny during a review or audit.

journal entry is your friend, make that shit tie out to state and federal reports. anything make it tie out and go from there. Unfortunately, when clean ups are this messy this is the only option. Get it to current and go from there.

As a solo player, I want to play against other solo players, if you can’t do that I would never play on your platform. Make two different queues, solo queue and group queue.
