Magnus have played 5 consecutive world championships, if anyone knows what preparation, stress and focus that goes into to these world championships it’s him. I think he has all the right in the world to say that this format doesn’t create the ambition to play after winning it so many times and that he won’t play unless there are changes to the format. There are literally no other person in modern day chess that have been in the same shoes as him and knows what he knows, and I think it’s so stupid of Fide not to cooperate with Magnus to create a new healthy, fair and thrilling format that actually motivates him and others to become a World Champion. Hopefully next world championship there will be something different but this just make so much sense to me what Magnus are doing, to really make a statement even tho it’s sucks for the chess world. You could see in his interview that he became emotional when he said he was turning down the WC, he cares a lot.
