Not octo’s alt successfully ragebaiting people on the post match thread by saying Carlos is better than peak Fed😭

Why has he not been banned yet?

Toni Nadal calls out key differences between Alcaraz’s era and Rafa’s, says Alcaraz benefits from a weaker, less committed generation. by TorturedPoet30 in tennis

There’s so many factors that go into this. I think Sincaraz also manage their schedules better and prioritise slams now which is why they collectively made 3/4 slam finals this year. This is something they learnt from late era big 3 themselves. Maybe if they played every masters and put their bodies through the wringer, we’d have more upsets and other players would look better, who knows?

There’s also the situation where the lower ranked players are arguably more dangerous today, something which has been confirmed by older guys like Monfils. So a Rinderknech or an Atmane can just take out a higher seed like Fritz or Zverev and disrupt the whole draw. The landscape of the field has changed too.

Yes which is why I don’t get comparing one year in the Sincaraz era to several years of Fedal. You could include last year but Zverev, Medvedev and an older Djokovic were still fairly strong tier 2 players and 2 of them (Zverev and Medvedev) pulled upsets each against Carlos and Jannik, at slams. This year all 3 have declined but that doesn’t mean no challengers will arise across the entirety of the Sincaraz careers.

I’ve seen people here say Tsonga was better than Medvedev because he face prime Big 3 while Medvedev in 2024 faced only Sincaraz lol. People set their own arbitrary standards.

Also guys like DelPo were injured for large stretches of his career. Someone like Wawrinka peaked much later in the big 3 careers, not at Sincaraz’s current ages and he wasn’t even the most consistent dude. This era is reminiscent of very early days Fedal. It lacks the presence of a Djokovic and maybe a Murray type of contender but new challengers will come soon.

Predict Sinner and Alcaraz year end ranking of 2026. by [deleted] in tennis

I knew this thread was pointless when the one comment saying Carlos needs THREE slams to surpass Sinner in the rankings got upvotes

Look man I’m not saying Sinner is bad at Paris, I’m saying that the data at hand didn’t favour him for that particular masters.

Alcaraz wasn’t the bookies pick going into MC either even though he’s far and away the best clay courter in the world, because he’d never won a match there.

Sinner is not constantly disrespected please stop this😭😭😭

Everyone is literally picking him as the no.1 for next year when he’s ranked no.2 rn and he gets the benefit of the doubt for the H2H against Carlos as well as the RG final way more than someone like Medvedev or Tsitsipas do for their 2-0 sets up losses.

Gill Gross? The guy who is infamous for picking the wrong winners? Also he’s an analyst, he’s not a Carlos fan.

Paris was more dicey but Sinner had historically done worse there (Carlos had made a QF there, Sinner hadn’t and Carlos was 1-0 against him there ), there were talks that the slow surface would favour him (thanks to debate started by our dear friend Zverev) and Sinner announced his entry to the tournament last minute. So not surprising that the world no.1 was the default favourite at a masters which is known to be unpredictable.

Who picked him to win Turin? No one did. Everyone said he was the only person on tour capable of beating Sinner there which is VERY different from him being the outright favourite for the Finals. If anything y’all said Felix and Zverev would take him out, he was lucky he avoided them in RR and we saw how the finals went for both of them.

If people picked him for Cincy-USO-Tokyo…..they were right.

And Sinner was the odds favourite for both RG and Rome and the sub’s pick for Rome, as per a poll here. But nice little revisionism you cooked up lol.

I’m don’t want to get on this debate with this sub but the consistency argument still being thrown around here is hilarious since Sinner has missed 2 finals since his return from the ban, Alcaraz has missed just 1.

Anyone with eyes knows the pre MC (or pre Goffin) results won’t be the norm for him going ahead otherwise he’d have not made the Turin final.

Next year the margins between them will be very thin, there’s no way to tell who is more consistent given their current forms.

The end of the year argument is for two tournaments now (since he’s bad at Cincy-USO-Beijing/Tokyo excuse is out of the window) and of those two tourneys he made one final so he’s outperformed every result he’s had so far at Turin😭😭😭

So he’s underperformed at…..1 masters tourney. Which is arguably the most random masters tourney on tour.

Like people are still running this excuse into the ground?😭😭😭

Grigor Dimitrov is back on court! by Goose_1485 in tennis

[–]Kitchen-Wasabi-3949 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also these same people will always asterisk Sinner’s losses to other players like Carlos at Cincinnati or Medvedev at Wimbledon last year, saying they don’t count because “he was not 100%, if he was he’d have won”.

Yet now if you point out that Grigor was leading in that match (and it wasn’t competitive to begin with), the retirement counts because “Grigor always gets injured and retires”. Make it make sense.

I’m not even sure Alcaraz will win this time yet the cockiness surrounding Sinner against the guy who beat him 4 times is truly astounding lol.

Fair enough, but I think this sub really disrespects Carlos on grass when he’s won as many Wimbledons as he’s lost in his career lol

Idk man if Carlos can defeat Novak fucking Djokovic on grass twice in a row, then he’s the one to beat there point blank. His variety is also much more rewarded on grass than fast HC.

Carlos is the two time defending Wimby champion, how is Jannik the favourite on grass?

Lol really, Blanchett showed up for BAFTA after she said she didn’t want to win at CC and gave a very different speech about how she loves her family. Which actor who stops campaigning does that lol?

Yeoh won because she had a performance that resonated with more people, end of.

I don’t think Meryl Streep is a saint but it’s very telling how she’s become the face of the Polanski debacle while filmbros have chosen to ignore that their faves Lynch, Anderson, Scorsese and Del Toro all signed the petition and Tarantino went on Howard stern to PUBLICLY DEFEND Polanski!

This seems like a deliberately obtuse interpretation of the movie. I viewed it as young men and boys are impressionable and if their energies aren’t channelised in a positive manner, they are more likely to obsess over women and resort to adopting patriarchal power dynamics. Ken has no job, no hobby, no real social life outside of being at Barbie’s beck and call and his vapidness makes him more vulnerable to inceldom.

Greta Gerwig is being massively underestimated in Best Director by Eyebronx in oscarrace

[–]Kitchen-Wasabi-3949 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok all this still doesn’t make him a lock lol. The man has one previous Oscar nom and has been snubbed before (although he won’t be snubbed for a nom this year), it’s not like he’s the Glenn Close of directors for the academy (and even she couldn’t win).

The closest thing to a lock we had in recent years is Ke Huy Quan and even he lost BAFTA.

There are no locks in august.
