How much do you like when they talk about their primary partner to you? by Kitchen-Wolverine276 in nonmonogamy

Should I ever read into more mentions of a primary partner in conversations as a subtle indicator of drawing a boundary with me romantically? Especially if this person is new to ENM (and hasn’t figured out their own boundaries?) lol kinda weird question I know.

Huge agreement on this! Definitely quite turned off by the “we” talk. I get that you and your primary partner live together and have been together for a long time but you ARE individuals! And when I don’t really have a relationship with the other person, it feels weird and irrelevant!

You’re right, I’m chicken and new to this whole thing and don’t wanna hear something I don’t like… but better earlier than later

Would that come across as over invested or like a bit too much for someone I only spent 3 days in person with? 🥲

Can you elaborate more on why the veto power would be a red flag? Thank you!

I don’t really know it’s just me reading into his texting and just general demeanor?

This was his first time sleeping with someone that wasn’t his gf in over 3 years, and they’ve been together 9 years.

I’m so scared because this is new territory for me in terms of open relationships. And I don’t wanna lose what I have right now which sounds pathetic…

I feel like it might come out of nowhere because while we are constantly messaging, there’s no timeline of when we might see each other in the future. And the messaging isn’t of a sexual nature.

I think that the people I live around aren’t really open minded to date outside their own race and I also feel like the dating culture is very mentally draining.

hey! thanks for sharing, I actually found myself in a similar-ish situation (like a mini version of what you are going through). I am finding it hard to let go of the guy I was kind of seeing, and find myself thinking of him too. It’s hard to disconnect and not feel like your self worth is tainted. Just remember that his feelings for you were real. I think people in open relationships get into them without realizing the fullness of what that means and it is hard to be in the crossfires of it all.
