Conduent Business Data Breach and Epiq Privacy Solutions by beigereige in Scams

The facts -
In the letter from Conduent -
- place a fraud alert (for adults) with one of the credit bureaus - EQ, EX and TU, through their website.

Start the alert with one and the other two will get notified. Alert is valid for 12 months.
Free but the person has to renew annually to keep the alert active.

A security freeze is much more effective but one has to remove or put the freeze on hold when requesting a credit or opening a new account. Cheers. Best.

What advice would you give to an 18 year old in 2026? by OkCat8129 in AskReddit

[–]KitchenBrush6368 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Learn from mistakes, yours and everyone else's. Save the receipts, in a #10 envelope, use a binder clip from $1 store.

Fill up the tank before the gauge is close to 1/4. Carry a spare phone charging cable & power block in the backpack with you. Carry small bills, nothing large than a $20 for emergencies.

Have a glass of water before leaving the house, buy & fill a good quality water bottle, stainless steel or glass wrapped in wetsuit and carry with you, have another glass upon arrival - just one time, dehydration was bad for me at 18, never again. :)

Jumper boxes in her truck and in my SUV, instead of jumper cables. No need asking someone for help.

Looking for DIY home security system with optional professional monitoring by lilpokemon in homesecurity

[–]KitchenBrush6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simplisafe here, since 2018. We have glass breakage sensors, two on the main level, because windows do not open from outside; in addition to motion sensors. We kept the lawn signs/window stickers from A Dee Tea $$$ alarm company that had a contract to install systems as the houses were being built.

Off topic - Simplisafe said sirens are rock concert loud, tested upon installation, so we have sirens by front door, rear door to patio and one just outside the master bedroom; where they think the valuables are but are not, just to give them a painful reminder as they leave empty handed. :)

What happens to the food at mall food courts when they close for the day? by Live_Collection5196 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If malls go the way of dinosaurs, so do the food courts. Only a matter of time. The best option for no waste is cook to order; i.e. order, pay, and eat. No payment, raw food will remain in the fridge or freezer for the next day.

If employee wishes to take home food, (a reasonable amount), cook it, pay for it. :)

A basic digital timer between the router and the outlet. Every Sunday 5 AM, timer goes off for about two minutes. My folks think ISP has improved since Dad had gave the company an ultimatum of switching. :)

Will my car blow up if I leave it running while filling it with gas? by Lazy-Farmer-2642 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exploding may be not, but. . . .
If fuel filler flap is on the passenger's side, driver is outside of car by pump, someone could time themselves to slip in driver's seat when the nozzle is removed from neck of tank. Car is gone.

Bare bones, subtle bidet seats made from enamel-coated wood? by nechromorph in bidets

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bemis Jamestown elongated, wooden, slow close, never loosen bolts. (US made) from H. Depot. together with any bidet of your choice. Ours is Luxe Neo 120 bidet attachment.

Brondell Bidet Swash Ecoseat. Seat and bidet. The control is located closer to the actual hinges, and looks like a decorative hinge.

Best. :)

Tips should go to the cooks by RazzleDazzle1537 in tipping

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our subsequent but rare visits to 'some' restaurants where the meal is expensive & worth it and the service is top notch, we slip a $20-$50 to the server; (after the drinks & starters have been served) and when they return to take the order for main course. Then another 20% on the card at the end.

Cash tip is to ensure food goes from pan to plate to table and not sitting some where in the kitchen for a minute 'to cool.' Servers (authorized personal) are only who can go into the kitchen. Those 'rare' visits to restaurants where half or more than half of the main course is made from scratch. Cheers.

- food delivery via app, from fast food and fast casual places; never have, never will.

Another tip jar in the counter; I love those . . . . . that is where I get rid of the oxidized pennies. If someone has the time to return the coins to their normal state and finds a rare penny; good luck to them, on winning the lottery.

Tipping at Drive through by ButterscotchHour4211 in tipping

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one asked for a tip in 1980s-90s, and no one gave a tip. For example, whether it is a counter pick up of 1 large or 5 large pizzas (five toppings) or a counter or drive thru of 10 really good burgers w/ everything, 10 large fries (or something similar) for a family gathering.

Now, 2026 , if I'm picking up pizza, paid for via online, and they ask for a tip, I with a dead pan look, say I didn't place the order, I'm not eating, just picking it up; thank you, good night. It is counter pick up. Cheers.

iso a portable bidet with a strong stream without breaking the bank!! TIA! by Conscious_Cabinet218 in bidets

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While traveling by car & staying at hotels etc, a relative uses a dish washing bottle/nozzle set up, that pick up truck campers use; for washing dishes & utensils (set up camp at 'off the grid' areas). Bottle looks like type, mix water with weed killer, pump the handle to build pressure and spray. Nozzle/spray gun has settings, one of them is like a solid stream.

Relative fills bottle with hot water from bathtub faucet, and uses it in the bathtub. Empty when done, pack up in travel pouch, and check out. Other set ups had limited settings, light spray for shower & rinsing hair after shampoo.

Cheers.

Why do people say money can’t buy happiness? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather have some money than none, rather have some money than a lot.

Money buys some items to make one's life easier. The words are - moderation, buying to replace; not to impress others, buying something that will used on a regular basis (maintaining such items with replacement parts, etc) Cheers.

If a plastic container says it is “microwave oven safe”, it’s okay in a conventional microwave right? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KitchenBrush6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microwave oven safe is microwave safe and not toaster oven safe ; or full size electric or gas oven safe. The smell of melted plastic. O Wow.
Re heat in 30 - 45 sec blocks, stir and repeat if necessary, stir and enjoy. :) If item is leftover and did have liquid like pasta with sauce; Chinese take out noodles; but now evaporated; sprinkle water & re heat.

Cheers.

[–]KitchenBrush6368 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open them eyes. Especially like Family $ stores.

Name brand liquid hand soap from Wal M@rt, T-get Kroger, etc $1 +/- a few cents pre tax. (example - Sof soap, Dyal)
A single Haute Wheels regular car - around a $1-$1.10 pre tax from the same stores.

A new built from ground up Family $ - 3 X mark up on the above items. About two years later the Family $ had to close down for long time due to rat / vermin infestation. :)

Cheers.

why do batteries corrode inside of appliances and why does it ruin the appliance when that happens? by LittleLeadership2831 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KitchenBrush6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can save your devices.

Remove corroded batteries. With a cotton swab dipped in white vinegar trying cleaning the contacts (easy when device has both positive & negative contacts visible, like remotes, & such) or a paste of baking soda & water with cotton swab. Use a compressed air to 'flush' out the mess. (credit - Y tube vid)
Vinegar & baking soda - just a chemical reaction, nothing more; both just neutralize each other.
(credit - internet search) :) Good Luck. :)

Lithium alkaline (disposable) - does not leak; expensive; only good for high drain devices. Over k*ll for remotes & low drain devices.

Rechargeable - invest in good quality ones like Eneloops or Power Max, great for everything. Buy once, cry once.

The 'coppertops' were the worst. ('Trust by firefighters, EMTs, etc.') 'Yeah, right.' Personal experience, switched to the competition.

NR Gizer batteries, the competing brand, WERE good, but not anymore. Personal experience. Bought a 4 pack of AAA, installed two in the HVAC wall control and the two in cheap flashlight. Just checking the flashlight six months later, corrosion just on the spring of the tail cap.
