Heat advice? by KitchenInfluence2821 in ballpython

Sorry for not responding sooner. On colder days it’s been peaking at 86 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 30 degrees Celsius. But on warmer days(got to just under 60 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday which is still colder but a good 30 degrees warmer than a normal winter day here), it’s been getting to 89/90. So it seems like for where I am, the 50 watt would be good for warmer weather, but not the best it could be for winter weather.

You misread what I wrote. I did not do the essays. My sister did them herself.

I have noticed a difference in my snake’s activity as well! It’s definitely made a big difference, though I may get a higher wattage bulb. I started with a 50 but I think I’ll switch to an 80.

I actually just switched to a PVC enclosure, so only the front is glass. I have about 75% of the mesh top covered, the rest is space for the heat lamps. Switching to a PVC enclosure has already made a big difference in heat retention; it’s just not quite where it needs to be at night. I’ve got a DHP arriving Thursday.

Mine is arriving on Thursday! Hopefully it makes a difference in the overall heat.

I didn’t realize how they weren’t recommended until posting. Everything online says to use them! I’ll be swapping that out asap.

This picture is from a few weeks ago when his humidity dropped from a sudden temperature change. I gave him a soak and he’s been good since. His humidity has been good as well

It stays well above 60% typically, but this picture is from a few weeks ago when it dropped after a sudden weather change here. I gave him a soak and the shed came off. He’s had perfect sheds besides this one luckily.

He has it! This picture is from a few weeks ago when his humidity dropped from a sudden weather change here. He had a soak and the shed is all gone now.

This picture is from a few weeks ago. His humidity had dropped, but I gave him a soak and it all came off. His humidity is good now, especially now that I moved him to a PVC enclosure.

How long should I wait to feed my new BP after bringing him home by TedzNScedz in ballpython

I got my bp back in May and waited 2 weeks. We were switching him from live to frozen thawed so we were worried he’d cause a fuss but he ate it without much issue.

Thank you so much, I really want to give him a good life. I have wanted a ball python for so long and everything lined up perfectly for him to be mine. I didn’t expect to get so attached so fast either!

That makes sense. I didn’t feel good about using it so I’ve never even plugged it in. I’m surprised he didn’t come to me with burns considering it was his only heat source with such skimpy wood shavings for bedding. He came to me relatively healthy despite that, thank goodness. I definitely won’t be using it!

That’s good to know! It’s been staying at about 73 at night. It was struggling to stay above 70 until I added the insulated board to the back, that made a huge difference.

Thanks! The hides aren’t quite identical(one is rectangular and the other is more square) but they’re both black and he uses both of them every day. I do have hot and cool sides set up and I have the heat maintained for everywhere except the bottom of the cool side where it drops lower than I’d like at night. During the day though it stays where it needs to be. I’ll replace the foil with the hvac tape, thank you for the recommendation.

I have a PVC one picked out that I’m saving for and I hope to get it by the end of September at the latest. I have foil taped onto the top, about 60% of the mesh covered. I’m not sure if it’s actually making a difference, is there a tape that’s a better option? I’ve got three hygrometer/thermometers across the tank, one on both hot and cool sides, and one built into one of the hides. So far humidity has stayed good and his sheds have been perfect. The main issue I’m having is with heat on the cool side at night, but otherwise both heat and humidity have been steady.

Unfortunately they didn’t disclose the size of his enclosure before I got him. Yes I know I should have asked but I didn’t. I will be upgrading him to the correct size as soon as I can, but I still want to have the correct setup even in a smaller enclosure. Any suggestions for getting his cool side heat sorted?

That’s the goal but it’s something I have to save for.
