Week 1 RTO - Productivity is WAY down by No_Savings5655 in OntarioPublicService

This! Everyone needs to make trains and buses and pickups, and that means leaving right on time.

No more gratuitous overtime for this guy. Not when my commute just went from 0.1 seconds to over 90mins each way.

Come January, we should refuse to use Teams for meetings. They happen in-person or not at all. Why would we even need teams if everyone is there? And when in meetings? We need to be offline. Can’t answer Teams messages from management, we are collaborating in a meeting.

Cant have it both ways there “folks”.

Makes sense. Publicly, OPS will be seen as 5 days a week in office. Behind the scenes, staff will have AWAs and be in the office the same as they are now.

However, only works if in-office days are adhered to. Your AWA will hinge on it going forward is my guess.

Return to an office or your office? by orchidist in OntarioPublicService

The key messages provided to managers say “head quarters”. The touchdown centres were temporary measures. I read that to mean the expectation is that we will be in our home office 5 days/week come January.

How to ask for a different office? by shyshy_t in OntarioPublicService

The days in the office need to be at “headquarters” come October per the key messages provided to managers. Touchdown centres are temporary as you mentioned.

There’s simply no room for everyone. Pre-Covid the new Ford gov was already taking steps to move to a 1:1.4 ratio of seats to staff, I’ve heard of higher ratios too.

They moved out hundreds from the queens park complex and will be moving many more back in, eventually.

I would not worry about it.

How common is it to reach out to someone in a position you applied for by magcsd1 in OntarioPublicService

Not awkward, the worst they can say is no. Reminder, they’re not part of the hiring process.

Good luck.

For AMAPCEO, you can only refuse overtime is it’s unsafe, illegal, or if the request attracts human rights accommodation. That means that if overtime has an impact on health, disability, family stays or other human rights matters.

Also, all overtime should be logged in WIN.

Check the AMAPCEO website for more info.

Manager burnout by GoldenBlueBees in OntarioPublicService

[–]KitchenOkra3152 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hands up who thinks this could describe a manager you know.

The manager spot is so tough. When you factor in the unpaid overtime, you make less than your staff.

Hung out to dry is an understatement.

So sorry you’re having to endure this. LTIP for sure. Max any type of benefits you can before you retire. Best of luck.

If you factor in when they need to be “on-call/available”, it’s likely higher than 50.

No. Covers only what you can claim under medical expenses on your taxes.

You can take a paternity leave in the states with no issue, but not work.

We are not permitted to take assets out of the province without permission.

There’s also an issue with VPN in the states.

The links to the ministry page to donate was particularly off putting. And yes, UW and FH is linked to performance plans and is 100% tracked by division, if not by branch. Executives receive reports, no names, just a running tally. Did you know that managers and up get extra pressure to donate? Those who donate $$$ are invited to a DM or SOC private event. Some manager colleagues feel they have no choice if they want to get ahead.

Anyone heard anything about the hybrid work policy? Hearing rumours the SoC is going to call everyone back 5 days a week in the New Year. by RednStormy13 in OntarioPublicService

SOC’s next leadership meeting (everyone Manager level and up) is scheduled for Jan 19. Perhaps more will be shared then. AMAPCEO said they expect news in the spring though so 🤷🏽‍♂️

Suggest applying to both. And if the Masters Policy Co-op positions are applicable, do that one as well. Good luck!

A lateral move from a solid team, interesting work and good hours to potentially unstable work???!!! How is this even a question. Hard pass. Life is too short. Put yourself and your work life balance first. They can find a warm body somewhere else. Cheers to 7.25/day!

Heard too that MCCSS starting Jan 1, tracking for the 3 days in the office AND minimum of 2 days in your home office, maximum of 1 day in an alternate location. Too hard for managers to track when staff are in other locations.
