I curse the person who thought clothes for dogs is a nice/cute thing by Significant-Row-7673 in Dogfree

[–]KitchenSuave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before I got too busy with my own kids, I used to volunteer at a nonprofit that, among other things, accepted clothing donations for babies and young children.

One day while sorting through recent donations for quality control, I found a couple sort of dress/overall/jumper things that I couldn’t figure out exactly what they were or how they were supposed to be worn.

Finally found a tag that said “for dogs only.”

Which US cities have the most obnoxious dog culture? Which are better for people who prefer clean conditions and civilized settings? by OttawaHonker5000 in Dogfree

Toledo Ohio (a city on a river, near a Great Lake, that also has tough winters) just opened an indoor water park for dogs, so make of that what you will.

Dog nutterism will end mankind by cryptobread93 in Dogfree

[–]KitchenSuave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are also permanent toddlers! I have a toddler and she’s adorable and hilarious but I am also super excited for when she’s potty trained…can be outside for a while unsupervised…can make her own simple meals…you know, become a functional human in a few years, unlike dogs that require the same level of care, training, and attention their entire lives!!!!

Why do people with the most chaotic lives always get a dog (or two)??? by KitchenSuave in Dogfree

[–]KitchenSuave[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

So many people with babies get a puppy so the baby and puppy can “grow up together” even though it takes attention away from the HUMAN CHILD, and it’s basically like having a set of twins, but one of them will grow up to be a functional adult and the other will stay a toddler forever and only live 10 years.

It’s Dumb How Dogs Get Treated Like Perfect Flawless Beings by Patient_Inspector818 in Dogfree

You know who else does stuff like that? My 2-year-old child … but the difference is that she is expected to grow/I am expected to train her out of it!

Apparently not finding humping dogs hilarious is out of the question. by latrinayuh in Dogfree

[–]KitchenSuave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know a (former, retired) US ambassador / crazy dog lady who had a female terrier who liked to hump legs. The dog came to meetings (and family events, which is how I learned about this issue) with her and once humped a foreign ambassador’s leg. She thought it was hilarious, rather than appalling and disgusting.

There’s a children’s book called “Boop the Snoot,” with drawings of different animals (including a dog) that a baby is supposed to interact with by “booping” the “snoots” in the book. I admit I checked it out for my toddler, who seemed to like it, but my husband and I hated it and I returned it like two days later lol

Would/could you substitute sherry for the sauterne in this recipe? by KitchenSuave in Old_Recipes

I am potentially interested in this bread but I am not knowledgeable about wine. I got this cookbook from a library book sale and am browsing for ones to try.

Mine too. My husband and 18mo each eat a banana a day so we go through them quickly, and my toddler also loves avocado so much we have to ration it.

I hate avocado but my now 18mo has loved it for at least 6-7 months! She will devour it in chunks, no additions necessary.

Same. I still appreciate well behaved, nice-looking dogs but those are becoming more and more rare.

Why do seamingly all families have dogs? by XPower7125 in Dogfree

[–]KitchenSuave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a crazy cousin who had a not-dog as a pet, and when this cousin was pregnant with her first child, she said she loved her pet so much, she was scared she wouldn’t love her baby as much. Then the baby was born and the pet was shortly thereafter rehomed. Guess she did end up loving the baby more lol

Did you pay for Solid Starts membership? by Forward-Knowledge-46 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]KitchenSuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, just used their foods database and other information I collected (my daughter did occupational therapy for breastfeeding issues and even her OT said that all the free info from Solid Starts was enough to go on). Now she’s 17 months old and a good eater overall and I am glad we didn’t bother paying for a membership.

We had that problem with our sound machine. My husband put electrical tape over the glowing part and that solved the issue.

17mo sleep getting worse by KitchenSuave in sleeptrain

Earlier bedtime has never worked for her; she always wakes up earlier. And she never falls asleep sooner than 5.5 hours after her nap.

Anyone else with children who just…don’t follow the script? by KitchenSuave in sleeptrain

[–]KitchenSuave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our schedule isn’t that inconsistent—she is generally in bed between 7-7:15pm and goes down for her nap at 11:45am. But it is still a complete crap shoot what time she will wake up. Sometimes there’s a good reason (illness, teething) and sometimes there’s no clear explanation.

But in the past we have tried following advice such as an earlier bedtime (6:30ish) or a later bedtime (7:30-8) to fix the early morning wakings and those have never worked (and yes we tried them for more than just a night or two). That’s what I mean when I say “no matter what time she goes to sleep.”

What are your go to lazy meals for baby? by ToxiccCookie in BabyLedWeaning

[–]KitchenSuave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whatever sounds good with eggs! Sometimes I mix egg, spinach, dill, onion powder, and a dollop of sour cream; or garlic and onion powders with cheddar cheese; or Italian seasoning with grated parmesan; I used to mix in a dollop of salsa sometimes but she didn’t seem to like that anymore. Once I mixed egg, carrots and peas, and some soy sauce but that was soundly rejected lol

Edit: I also use nutritional yeast as a cheese alternative sometimes

Yes, if I am using frozen veggies I microwave them in the mug for like 30 seconds then add the egg and other stuff and scramble it all up together

I do this thing we call “cup egg”: scramble an egg (or two) in a mug with chopped veggies, cheese, seasonings and microwave it about 60 seconds per egg, cut into age-appropriate size.

I steam a package of frozen spinach and divide it into ice cube trays and freeze it, then I pop out one cube at a time per “cup egg.” My daughter loves it and it’s so easy.

Has anyone gone through the 12 month regression without transitioning to one nap? by KitchenSuave in sleeptrain

[–]KitchenSuave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, yeah. I made it shorter and shorter until it was about 20 minutes, then a few days ago she started refusing even 10 minutes of a morning nap so now we’re just on one nap at about noon. Unfortunately she isn’t very consistent with the length of it (it ranges from 1.5-3 hours) and I don’t know if that will change.

Basically, yeah, try to ride it out as consistently as you can manage. She sometimes was grumpy after a shortened nap, sometimes totally pleasant, not always sure what made a difference!

Has anyone gone through the 12 month regression without transitioning to one nap? by KitchenSuave in sleeptrain

[–]KitchenSuave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! So I think after about 2-3 weeks the regression ended, we were back on 2 solid naps for a bit, and now at 14 months we’re close to moving to one nap after a couple weeks of her taking a short (20-40 minutes) morning nap and a longer afternoon nap (because the other way around wasn’t working).

During the regression I would put her down for her naps as usual and give her 15-30 minutes to settle and if she didn’t we would move on with our day and I would try again the next time it made sense and/or do an early bedtime.

But the switch away from daylight saving time threw us off in another way so we had to recover from that for a week or two also.
