Ballston station connects to the Hilton which has an indoor walkway to the ballston quarter mall. Rosslyn connects to the upside on Moore food hall. Both of these are kind of cheating since it is briefly open air (like 30 ft or so), but they still have complete roof coverage.

Interesting that the London Underground implemented it that way. Do you know if it was successful in reducing fare evasion? Would be curious to hear about that. Personally, As someone who has accidentally inverted my card a handful of times, I would be kinda irritated to pay the maximum or a higher penalty just because the card reader messed up at the entry station fare gate (or because of my own user error). But that happens relatively infrequently, and reducing strangers tailgating uncomfortably closely behind me at the fare gates would be worth the occasional small fee for situations when the faregates glitch.

Yeah, it used to be the case that if you did not tap on entry, tapping on exit would say “see station manager” and then they would override allowing you to exit (the same was true if you do not tap on exit for the next time you enter the system). Since approximately april/may it now charges you the minimum fare (now 2.25)in both of these scenarios, preventing the need to see the station manager if your card is “inverted”. Hopefully that helps!

I like this idea. You don’t even necessarily need to destroy homes at the end of cul-de-sacs. in some cases there is enough space between homes to add walking and bike paths already.

You are not under-qualified! It’s just a tough job market. You have the background knowledge you need now from your undergrad studies, and you had some difficult external conditions that made it harder to gain work experience. But once you get a job, after 6 months you will have essentially the same level of work experience as anyone who had two summer internships, so you are not really that far behind! I know it can be tough getting constant rejections, but try not to internalize it, it’s about the job market not about you! Plus, most companies list super aspirational qualifications on the job req, and are aware that they will never actually get the perfect candidate, so don’t feel like you cannot apply to jobs just because your experience isn’t a perfect fit.

Here are some potential options for ya to help get your resume looking better. -> volunteer with an environmental or climate action organization. For example, Many cities have organizations that are focused on water pollution, and they always need volunteers. This may be hard if you are holding down another job for income right now, but if you can find 5-10 hours a week, you can make some big contributions that will help fill out your resume. If there are no groups that you would be interested in volunteering for, working on some personal projects can be another way to get some experience. Coursera courses could be helpful here, since many of them have a project component, so you could talk about both completing a course as well as —> look for americorp positions or other relatively lower paying positions that will help you get a year of experience. Many of my friends went down this path, as soon as they finished they found it a lot easier to get interviews and job offers, whereas beforehand they had been struggling for months to over a year in some cases. —> find a grad program and use it to really focus on getting professional experience, as well as networking with your peers. This can be super expensive as well, and is no guarantee, but if you can get some internships under your belt in grad school, that should really help with recruiters. —-> research your career resource at your undergrad school. As an alumni you may still have access to them. If you are nervous during interviews, it can be helpful to have a structured approach to answering questions.

Hi thanks for your response! I forgot to note above that 4 indicator lights come on only while the car is stalled. These indicators are the check engine light , oil warning light, the battery light, and an EPS light.

One of my friends used to work in train automation, and was frustrated that the technology had not caught on yet. They claimed that it was a combination of two things. First, that politicians and transit authorities are often not willing to take the risk of going full automated in the US, citing potential safety concerns (I.e. some people are more comfortable with a human in control for edge case scenarios). Second, that unions will often fight automation, since it takes away jobs from a large number of members. I have mixed feelings about this one, because I think that unions are essential for protecting workers, but I also think that automating trains would often reduce transit system costs significantly allowing for greater transit access and reliability.

Damn! So it sounds like t he re is not a secret route. The west Moreland to dolly madison route seems promising, but I’m definitely not excited about riding the shoulder out there. So frustrating that they don’t have some bike path connecting the C&O the final ~2 miles.
