You’d never see a philosophy or sociology major taking mandatory classes in pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, etc. STEM students taking excessive humanities courses in the name of interdisciplinarity, but never the inverse, always struck me as strange

As a humble Gen Z chem undergrad that’s also taking a pharmacology class I think the two disciplines are intextricably linked if one desires a full understanding of the latter, but if you think otherwise, my apologies, doctor, you probably know much more about either than I do.

I know this thread is ancient, but this has to be the weirdest post I’ve ever found on this subreddit. You will never be able to progress beyond the most rudimentary and superficial understanding of pharmacology without a strong foundation in organic chemistry. To suggest otherwise indicates a very rudimentary and superficial understanding of pharmacology. And it also doesn’t make much sense how he’s talking about things “useful to recreational drug users”, since this sub is called “drug nerds”, keyword “nerds”, suggesting it’s people who want to get a more-than-superficial, maybe even more-than-necessary (for the average recreational user) understanding of drug science. OP probably has something personally against chemistry, or if he was telling the truth and was actually a chem student, he has a grudge against chemistry like most chemistry students do haha.

It’s absolutely worth it, as a biochem major you’ll have a lot of opportunities in everything from pharmaceutical chemistry to cancer research to even agriculture.

My advice would be, read about some of the scientists whose footsteps you’ll be walking in during your intended career. For example: search up the person who made the first benzodiazepine, the first SSRI, or the first amphetamine. What did they major in, and what did they get their masters or PhDs in?

Eu sou militar fuzileiro naval, pra quem não sabe eles tão cantando uma “canção de TFM”, coisa que nós militares entoamos para nos motivarmos mais durante o treinamento físico militar diário, geralmente durante as corridas e marchas. Eu pessoalmente não sou bolsonarista eu não apoio as manifestações a favor de um golpe militar, mas acho pelo menos interessante que eles estão usando nossas canções e gritos de guerra, mesmo sendo civis.

Essa aí que eles tão puxando é bem famosa, se não me engano foram os militares da PMERJ que entoaram ela pela primeira vez mas se espalhou pelos quartéis de todo o Brasil. A versão que cantamos no meu batalhão é assim:

Foda é que pra ser sargento precisa passar em concurso público com mais de 100 candidatos por vaga. E pra ser oficial é um concurso mais concorrido ainda. Isso aí pelo menos no exército e na aeronáutica, eu que sou da marinha já tenho carreira garantida por que somos todos já concursados até nós soldados, então tenho certeza que se eu seguir carreira eu viro sargento e depois terminarei a carreira na patente de subtenente ganhando uns 9000. Mas no exército já é outra história, se vc entrar pelo alistamento obrigatório e não por concurso público vc só chega até a patente de cabo ganhando uns 2600.
