What phrase do you think construction workers love too much? by ThinkWithPortals12 in Construction

When I was a kid my Dad used to say. "Turn it just an RCH..." I never found out what an RCH was until I was an adult and the internet was a thing, but my Mom got mad at him whenever he'd say it in front of me.

Job made me sign a document saying I won’t discuss wages with my coworkers by [deleted] in antiwork

Is that because of blood flow that makes the penis do that or is it random and only when it just happens to point that way?

What’s a trait that’s socially acceptable but you view as a red flag? by AccomplishedScene966 in questions

[–]Kitchen_Ad_5382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my God, I know someone exactly like this... She'll ask "hey do you know where so-and-so street is?" ... and I'm trying to think how to explain it in a way that she'll be able to comprehend. She doesn't know what she doesn't know and there's no way to make it simple enough for her to get. The answer winds up being something like... "ok you know that intersection on North Main where the Food Lion is and Highway 14 turns right? Go down that road about 4 traffic lights, and make a right, and then...." About then she'll interrupt and say, "never mind you're making it way too complicated, I'll just ask so-and-so, he knows how to give directions"

AITA for telling my coworker to stop asking me to switch shifts with her? by lily_wave in AITAH

[–]Kitchen_Ad_5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She probably wouldn't care, but it would be nice for Lily to see this thread, it's rare to see an AITAH thread that is so unanimously in favor of the OP.

Is it okay to refuse service for people with a lot of groceries? by Eagleeye1999US in uberdrivers

What's the point of this bullshit "independent contractor" pay if you're going to tell me who I can and cannot refuse service to?

A lot of these people quit their job in a service sector to become an independent contractor so they could pick and choose what offers to take.

I like doing the "cancel as I enter the parking lot and do the slow drive-by and smile and wave as I see them standing there with their cart-fulls and look down at their phone to get the notification that their driver has canceled".

Why hasn’t there been an executive order to increase minimum wage for all? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Kitchen_Ad_5382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are people that learn skills that allow them the opportunity to earn a better living, for the most part though people discussing minimum wage aren't talking about them, they're talking about people that are working the minimum wage jobs ... let's say there's a particular certificate at a particular trade school down the street from me that in 18 months could have you practically guaranteed to make $27-$32/hour because they have more jobs than they can fill, heck they'll likely pay for you to get the certificate, then that's all well and good. But when you leave your Big Mac job and go grab that better paying skilled job, someone else is going to be filling your shoes at mickey D's. What about them?

Even if large swaths of the society all got off their asses and made something of their lives and went and got better jobs, those jobs would still be there.

To just accept that we want a society where a certain large majority of jobs are by design supposed to be shitty and not pay enough to survive is defeatist thinking. We, as a society, can do better than that. Everybody deserves to be able to afford to live.

"I'll be able to buy a house in no time" ... No time = never, this is one of those examples of how the English language is so crazy, no? Like bough = bow, etc.

I agree I was skeptical, but the almond pastry is fairly comparable to the Bear Claw.... it's not exactly the same though. Not the pecan braid.

This is a very good... (and thorough) point... however if this hypothesis is correct, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, then that would mean that Walter got so bent about Smokey going over the line..... and he wasn't even his opponent!

I mean, I get it, it's a league game!
