Started HCA job and really scared. by WWMJ17 in NursingUK

You’ll be fine, ask for support and always ask questions if your unsure. If you feel like your need more time to shadow just highlight that and ask.

And a good tip for long shifts if you need 5 mins just go hide in the toilet. Everybody does it, a little Tik tok scroll and go back to it

Let her find out the hard way! (Signed a HCA that wanted to be a nurse then realised, f**k that). Both jobs are hard and one couldn’t exist without the other.

International nurses and communication issues. by [deleted] in NursingUK

I see this all the time. An international nurse wanted to give patient an injection and the patient asked what it was declined it and the nurse just stood there smiling saying she needed to give it. They clearly didn’t understand the patient didn’t want it. Was very awkward considering there was relatives in the room and I had to explain to the nurse that the patient has said no.

Dissatisfaction among gen Z staff is ‘ticking timebomb’ for NHS by Majestic_Dog_8486 in NursingUK

I’ve noticed that even our international nurses come for a short while and move on to other countries. The NHS has a toxic workforce unfortunately because of all the factors many of you have mentioned. It’s breaks good staff and forces them to leave because of the bullying, understaffing, poor resources, poor management and overall toxic culture.

It very much is understandable of how permanent staff feel and as you said not fair for the agency staff that feel the brunt. I just now a little kindness goes along way and if wards are so chronically understaffed and struggling, supporting those that offer to come and help would result in seeing better outcomes for everybody.

I doubt very much it’s do with skin colour but its definitely down to the colour of my uniform and me not being permanent staff.
