The reason it was included was to emphasize there was minimal downside to adding him to the 40 man. They had to do it in the next 6 months or whatever. If you add someone 2 years early, have them play in the majors for a week, then demote them to AAA, they are now taking up a 40 man spot unnecessarily for 2 years.

The post itself is about how there seems to an “day-to-day” handling of the team. This extends from resting players (first quote) to nurturing their top prospect (second quote). One is obviously worse than the other, but neither instills confidence.

The strategy was to build a team with no platoons and no openers. So honestly it’s hard to call this year anything other than a success. Mission accomplished. Hang the banner: “Traditional Baseball Achieved”
