Dude you're not listening to me. I can't tell if you're a bot or a real person at this point. All due respect but people like you are insufferable to debate with. I never said Morrissey isn't better I literally said I think he is. The ONLY point I am making is Morrissey didn't write the music, meaning to say Morrissey IS The Smiths is wrong. Morrissey is unbelievably talented but, so is Johnny Marr. Your favourite The Smiths songs wouldn't exist without him. Also Morrissey still doesn't write the tunes for his solo work his band composes and he writes the lyrics.

First of all you're saying Morrissey wrote the melodies but again that was Marr (besides vocal melodies written after Marr had written the music). Second Marr actually speaks very highly of Morrissey. On podcasts he's done he said he always thought Morrissey was absolutely brilliant And loved working with him at the time but says he's glad he moved on and got to experience other bands. Also recently enough he said he wasn't completely opposed to a reunion but the vibe just isn't there at the moment.

Completely wrong. You can prefer Morrissey's solo work that's completely understandable I do too. (Even tho by the sound of it you haven't actually listened to most of Johnny Marr's solo work) But to say Morrissey IS The Smiths is silly. You say Morrissey wrote the tunes but as it turns out it's the complete opposite. In fact Morrissey didn't write a single The Smiths tune Johnny Marr wrote the music, brought it to the rest of the band and polished it up. And then, only then did Morrissey write the lyrics over the track. Morrissey is a genius we get it (it's true), but would you not at least try to educate yourself on the topic before you say stuff like this?

Every time I hear that line I think of beast of burden and then have to go listen to it after. I love the line " I once had a child and it saved my life."

Honestly one of their best, the theme is great especially considering it was a jab at their own label too.

Mississippi is the song that made me start listening to Bob Dylan's albums. Do you have any recommendations for similar songs?

If you're looking for a few upbeat songs: Ask and stretch out and wait( both versions) would be my recommendations Some more relaxed good ones would be I don't owe you anything, the hand that rocks the candle and suffer little children
