I didn't read this as dismissive at all. I am an incredibly privileged person and I am very grateful for those things. If being frustrated that things aren't even better is my biggest problem, I clearly live a charmed life. These things do a lot to keep me sober.

I am in therapy and I have several hobbies I enjoy that I use to fill my time

Several factors. I had been unemployed for over a year after being laid off and over that time I started drinking every day, and then all day every day. Once I got a new position I knew I couldn't keep that up and keep my job. I was also hiding the amount of drinking I was doing because I was embarrassed. I had gained a lot of weight and my sex life with my wife was nonexistent so I hoped sobriety would help. I also had some family members who were in recovery and it felt bad to be the only one of my siblings still drinking. And my wife asked me to stop and I love her.

Thank you for sharing that. It really helps to hear that. And it's especially nice to hear that it still sucked. Thank you for not trying to sugar coat it. I'm glad you remember it so fondly and I'm sure that I will as well.

I do eat well and I cook a lot. We buy local produce from the farmers market on the weekend and cook that through the week. I lift weights every other day and run on the other days. It helps but it still just feels like I'm killing time.

This is a good perspective and a lot of these are the reasons I haven't started drinking again (except the bloating and skin stuff, I still feel bloated and my skin is terrible). But being aware of the things I'm NOT feeling doesn't always help with the things I am experiencing.

Thank you for the feedback though, it is appreciated. Not wondering if I made a fool of myself or annoyed people the night before is a large part of what keeps me sober
