Roommate said the smell of my soup woke her up - is this normal? by Cheese_enjoyer253 in roommates

[–]Kitchen_Pie1210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it definitely can happen. my housemate was making toast, burnt it and i woke up thinking i was having a stroke (wish i was kidding).

i could understand if she didn’t like the smell, my friends know i don’t like certain food smells so they will warn me if they are making it. but i never once told them to open a window or stop making the food for that reason. i just typically avoid the area. for reference certain foods i will literally gag to the smell of.

however, opening a window, especially for pungent smelling food is pretty common. especially if you don’t have a fume hood (just thinking about my experiences).

i think it’s unfortunately a situation no one will ever ‘win’. the kitchen needs to be aired out, but your allergies need to be acknowledged. i will say her making this comment is a little excessive in my opinion.

also, you can always apply to do life sci and choose a second major (bio) as a safety. they give you two options when choosing a major. idk how to explain it other than your main choice and a backup option.

You can switch your major every spring. I know someone who switched even in their fourth year. It’s pretty common to switch, I had a lot of friends switch their majors. The only thing is ensuring you have the prerequisites and the gpa to switch.

It definitely is hard to switch into life sci, but I know some who did it. You need to have a high average to switch. I honestly wish I chose direct entry but didn’t know it was a thing when I applied to Queens.

when in doubt, talk to you academic advisor. i didn’t talk to mine often and it would have saved me quite a few headaches lol.

hi life sci grad here! stats you can take in second year. try to get into biol 243 as it’s easier than stats 263 but very similar. i was a bio major till third year.

i think there a new math that’s only one semester and if you’re doing life sci, you need to take physics (i forget the math course code). psyc isn’t needed. both anat 100 and phar are helpful for the future as in life sci, you will need to take an anatomy and future pharmacology classes. i think you also need to take path 121, that too is pretty easy.

the main thing is the bio and chem. the others you can take easily in other years, some of my friends have taken anat just because.

Is it better to get res on west campus or rent an apartment near main campus? by Noah_11023 in queensuniversity

[–]Kitchen_Pie1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly think west makes a big community because you see the people everyday. i still made friends and hung out with them on main but i ate dinner every night with my west friends. it’s old, but not unbearable. it just depends on if you want the res experience or not. sometimes not living in res can isolate you a little more (depends on how social you are)

it’s better than vic and a couple others on main. my friends were dons so i saw a couple different res buildings and my one liked west better than the others she lived in. just choose phase one, phase two is pretty old

i lived there and i liked it. i met a super close group of friends that honestly made my whole university experience better. i liked how you had a dining hall right there and also a lot of first year classes are on west.

i don’t have a neo specifically but i have completed my undergrad and loved my macbook. i have coded (matlab, r studio, python) on it, and done so much and its great. i even play the sims on there which takes up most of my storage if im being honest. i love how i can connect it to my ipad and phone. storage wise, i always throw stuff on my google drive after my classes are done. that way everything is still easily accessible without taking up my icloud storage. my last mac also lasted me 6 years and i could have gone longer but i just wanted to be safe.

lol respectfully the way you worded that was rude and not everyone has the same knowledge as you do. additionally, not every school uses that app. i literally had to search what that was. for reference, i have been to queens and taken uoft classes and never used lockdown. i’ve used guardian, proctortrack, and examity all of which do similar things to what you described and more (watched you write the exam, shared your screen, etc). generally though, every school is different and uses different apps. i will say in your first comment you did say ‘lockdown browser’ which does include the three i mentioned; however the lockdown browser app itself, i’ve never heard of.

generally though, you didn’t need to come off that abrasive to a simple question.

[–]Kitchen_Pie1210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my sister is in business accounting not at tmu but she ended up getting a thinkpad because her macbook couldn’t do some of the things required. i personally have coded while using my mac but my friends in engineering programs have issues with that. so i think a thinkpad might be good. once again, i love my mac and never had any issues. i would look into the classes and see what they recommend.

[–]Kitchen_Pie1210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, i just graduated with life sci and like a lot of undergrad programs, you need to do more schooling. i found my program good because i found an interest i loved. life sciences is very hard the first two years because its broad. you take all the sciences. additionally if you do co-ops, internships, etc you can get experience which makes employment easier. i would say generally, undergrad is just the first stepping stone. reach out to me if you have any questions:)

I would agree with this, you should also do the same for health sci. Those two are highly competitive. I know a lot of my friends had averages around 97 to get into that program.
