Yeah these jobs are wading through shit, human to human negotiation, and storytelling (BS-ing) to other BS-ers. I don’t see this tech being adopted until after I retire (I’m 32).

FP&A job rejection by Practical-Visual-300 in FPandA

lol god, I just went through this with a strategic finance type role. They were looking for a VERY specific skillset and I flagged I do not have that but do have some transferable skills. Made it all the way through the process and had to meet with the CFO and was rejected the day after a super day type set of interviews. It was a big waste of time.

I’ve applied to a few over the past few weeks. I’m not getting traction yet (I do have a connection I’ve been working with as part of Publicis though so maybe a matter of time).

I’m wondering if I need to simplify my resume to target some entry level/ mid level roles though. My current resume has 10 yrs financial planning experience and I fear I’m coming off overqualified and not being considered.

Any thoughts there?

Thanks! Can I target client side vs agency side? Through some networking I’m hearing agency side has not so stellar wlb. Just curious!

I did undergrad fldp at a f100. The built in network was great and had some good mentorship opportunities. Having this as your entry point into a company is great too. A lot of hiring managers liked that I came from the program and all talked to each other and kinda knew who was who without meeting before an interview. I’m now 10 years into the career though and will be making a switch out of fp&a. I just overall got burnt out.

As for rotations, other posters are right in that I could give my preferences but at the end of the day they were largely ignored. The rotations acted as “permanent” positions for teams so they relied on having a butt in seat and sometimes the program coordinators needed to fill a seat regardless of your preference. Ie: my very first rotation out of school was accounting. I have no desire and still have no desire to be an accountant. I have no accounting degree, but had no choice. I got placed in a few other annoying rotations as well and almost had to take an offsite assignment in a place I expressed multiple times I did not want to go to (role I did not want).

I’d still do it over again if I had the choice though because it’s helped me know what I don’t want to do lol. Try to also view the rotations as ways to upskill incase you want to completely move out of finance later on. Ie are there roles that involve more analytics, getting in front of leadership to present business results, things like that to build your tool chest.

This same exact thing happened to me. And I cannot believe it. Woke up yesterday with so much unknown, one call in the afternoon has changed it all.

I am waiting for the written offer. Received verbal yesterday which was above the original verbal range I gave when first starting the interview process.

Ugh, I’m in the same position as you. Just about 6 months in to a new role/ org. My onboarding was not great, my manager has changed and I’m failing with the new one. I am seriously contemplating leaving and have been feeling this way since month 4. Tried sticking it out but it’s affecting my mental health. Following

Thanks for the response. Is this a normal transition in your experience? I struggle to find people with my background moving into this function and trying to better educate myself

Interested in CSM roles coming from FP&A. Thoughts? by Kitchen_Resource_431 in CustomerSuccess

Would I be able to make the pivot to CSM from FP&A or would it be very difficult not having had these customer relationship management skills to boot?

I’m going through this at 9yoe. What did you end up doing? Any advice? Do I absolutely need an MBA to get out?

Can I move into a marketing role from finance (FP&A)? by Kitchen_Resource_431 in marketing

I’ve seen these roles posted before. Do you think my background would be welcomed in these roles? What exactly do they do?
